Horribly written and confusing account. Reporter sounds like product of ComDem education system.
Only crime of the Marine? Carrying concealed weapon without a license.
It is confusing, but there is probably more to this than article discloses.
That's not the way I read it. The home invader who was shooting into the house was only charged with the carrying without a license charge. The marine who returned fire to protect his family, including an infant daughter, was charged with many charges including attempted murder and is looking at a possible life sentence.
Understand that shooting people is generally illegal, and it’s normal to throw the shooter into a cage until a judge sorts out what happened & why.
Seriously: if you fire in self-defense, expect to go to jail. You may be exonerated, but you’ll likely be arrested first.
Its probably illegal these days to still have a prescription AFTER it expires. Who knows. Article raises more questions than it answers.
“Concealed Weapon”... IN YOUR OWN HOME ????
What the ____ is this woman in detroit thinking of? Looks pretty clear to me the guy pounding on the door is in the wrong place and drugged out of his mind and very dangerous and in need of being shot and killed.
My LOCKED front gate is more than 500 yards from the road. From there to the house is a free fire kill zone. I fully intend to use it if necessary. I may fire one warning shot up to about 400 yards. Any advance beyond that is a gift or a mistake to anyone I don’t know.
If there is anyone pounding on any of my doors I will also lose a door.
This is only right to be able and allowed to defend your space.
The picture of the charging prosecutor explains it all.
I do not and would not live wherever this took place.
White Marine, black prosecutor, Wayne County, Michigan. End of story.
BTW, this happened in Westland, a western Detroit suburb. This sort of thing does not happen there every day.
Whether or not one carries concealed, it is prudent for all American gun owners to have some kind of self defense insurance.
I’ve been with Second Call Defense for years. Excellent group.

Lowest common denominator legal logic. Endemic throughout the states.
By even the most convoluted hoplophobe thinking, Nelson, the Marine, was the victim in this case. It was he who called the police.
Wilson was blatantly guilty of aggravated assault and injury with a deadly weapon while trespassing -- and, attempted murder. (He was just a lousy shot...)
WTH is wrong with the imbecile who charged the Marine with ANY crime?
It would have been dead simple to determine if Wilson's "concealed" weapon had been fired recently. (Nelson didn't shoot himself...) What idiot determined that Wilson was just "carrying concealed"?
Was Wilson some sort of buddy (or co-conspirator) with the LEOs on scene?
Two nights ago the alarm in my house went off at 4:50 A.M. It woke my wife and I out of a sound sleep and our kids came running into our room. After nervously fumbling with my safe I extracted my firearm while the wife called the police.
I maintained the high ground at the top of the steps after clearing the landing around the corner. I also noted the front door was open and there was some sort of tracks on the landing. I knew there were tracks because we had a fresh dusting of snow that night.
Once I settled my breathing and calmed a bit I had this horrid thought. If I had to shoot someone, that meant jail for certain. Even though I had retreated into the furthest spot possible it meant jail. Luckily, I didnt have to make that choice as the would be robber did not enter and fled the scene.
I live in a blue state and that is now the reality of it. The state gives the criminals the benefit of the doubt. It will never be said out loud but the state regards us rich people (anyone who isnt on welfare) as getting what we deserve when our houses get robbed. If our families get hurt? Well, that is seen as cosmic justice too.
The DA better be ready for jury nullification
Westland. A shitty suburb.
Detroit’s police chief actually advised city residents to arm themselves because Detroit is so big but the tax base and police are so small.
Cracking the door frame Nelsons family says Joey grabbed his gun and yelled for Wilson to leave.
This is one of the most poorly written articles Ive read this year.
But, its only the 12th.
This $hit makes my blood boil. Look who’s the prosecutor. Wilson should be the one in jail... but that makes too much sense. What was her motivation to bring the charges she made? And what information was given to her by the arresting officers?
Note to self:... stay the “F” away from Detroit!
At home?
Makes no sense.
Arrested?
with 3-1/2 witnesses?
WTF?
In his own home?
