Incoming Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) indicates that banning private gun sales in the state will be a priority for 2018.
In other words, he will continue to pursue the gun controls that outgoing Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) pursued but failed to secure.
NBC Washington reports that Northam will be pushing universal background checks for gun buyers. This means private gun sales will be treated like retail sales, with a point-of-sale background checks required at time of purchase. Such a framework will require a law-abiding gun owner to seek out a government representative, a federal firearms license holder, and have a background check performed before he sells a gun to his neighbor, co-worker, lifelong friend, or acquaintance.
Other states that have outlawed private gun sales charge a fee for the required background checks. That fee effectively serves as a new tax on the gun sale or transfer, thereby driving the price of firearms up.

The Beltway fairway of the circus of Northern VA— Fairfax County and outlying urban sprawl of fedgov lib workers for life is what happened to VA. Numbers of blue counties out polling the better parts of the state as one moves West, and the most poverty hit mtn. portions of the finest people one could ever meet. The money from Richmond never makes it past Roanoke, so the mtn. folks say— and they could really use new factory starts with real economic help and attraction- they are great workers. And in those Eastern blue counties large concentrations of illegal immigrant and winners of the ridiculous diversity lottery immigrants (that Trump wants stopped and removed)and thus... chain migration- major impact on the real Virginia.
Personally, tongue in cheek- think this all started with the federally enforced requirement for property taxes on properties which were within the “insurrectionist” lands (for example- Arlington and surrounding lands, which belonged to Martha Custis and Robert E. Lee)during the Civil War— that these taxes must be paid in person by the landholder to the occupying Union supervised county clerks. This was by an act of Congress of the time, signed by Lincoln and enforced by Union army- imagine that. No internet to pay the taxes in absentia. It’s how Arlington was seized to be turned into a National Cemetery. A “federal land grab” if one will.
Northam is just trying to remove the People’s arms, today, like any good lying Statist socialist.
Voting wise- the blue counties still put in Dave Brat (R) so one true conservative can win if they’re smart. So, Dave knows how to win there.
People in Southwest Virginia come to Tennessee to work
without a current owner database of every firearm, it's not even a pipe dream possibility.
