COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A two-star general who recently headed the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson was denied a promotion to three-star after referring to a congressional staffer as "sweetheart" during a meeting in 2016.
That's according to military news outlet Stars and Stripes, which reports that Maj. Gen. Ryan Gonsalves was administratively reprimanded after an investigation into the incident. His specific punishment, aside from being denied the promotion to lieutenant general, wasn't released by the Army.
It stems from a meeting in October 2016 between Gonsalves and office staff with Rep. Jim Langevin (D-Rhode Island) at Fort Carson. According to a report, Gonsalves called a female staffer "sweetheart," and commented on her age.
Gonsalves also told the staffer to take notes "since she was a Democrat and did not believe in funding the military," according to a report from the Army Inspector General.

I used to know a Federal agent who was a WWII veteran. He called just about all females “honey”.
We were given a lecture on sexism or something like that. The girl was typical.
When he called her honey, I thought to myself that we were about to be witness to an explosion. To my surprise, she did not seem to mind.

I’m willing to bet the female said something stupid first.
I interviewed for a job where they had already decided to hire the Director’s daughter. They only interviewed me to say they’d interviewed other people.
The young woman on the interview committee asked me the same question three times. It became obvious they were never going to hire me.
She asked me the same question again, so I talked to her like she was four.
I’m sure she told everyone that the bad old Army guy was being condescending.
She even called me to tell me I didn’t get the job. I asked her if she had called the other applicants to tell them they didn’t get the job.
“No.....just you.”
Eventually, they discovered that the Director’s daughter was a dud and they fired her and the Director.
I got a letter a few months later saying I didn’t get the job. Must have been an attempt to put off a lawsuit.
