Exclusive: Bannon apologizes (2018)
Axios ^ | Jan 7, 2018 | Mike Allen

Posted on 01/07/2018 9:02:05 AM PST by Eddie01

Battered by the backlash from Michael Wolff's book, Steve Bannon is trying to make amends with the Trump family, providing a statement to Axios that expresses "regret" to President Trump and praises his son, Donald Trump Jr.

"Donald Trump, Jr. is both a patriot and a good man. He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around."

"My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda — as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama."

"President Trump was the only candidate that could have taken on and defeated the Clinton apparatus. I am the only person to date to conduct a global effort to preach the message of Trump and Trumpism; and remain ready to stand in the breech for this president's efforts to make America great again."

"My comments about the meeting with Russian nationals came from my life experiences as a Naval officer stationed aboard a destroyer whose main mission was to hunt Soviet submarines to my time at the Pentagon during the Reagan years when our focus was the defeat of 'the evil empire' and to making films about Reagan's war against the Soviets and Hillary Clinton's involvement in selling uranium to them."

"My comments were aimed at Paul Manafort, a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate. He should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends. To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at Don Jr."

"Everything I have to say about the ridiculous nature of the Russian 'collusion' investigation I said on my 60 Minutes interview. There was no collusion and the investigation is a witch hunt."

"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency." The backstory ... In Wolff's book, Bannon is quoted as saying of Mueller's prosecutors: "They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.'"

Be smart: While Bannon's statement may seem like a baby step, he's as stubborn as Trump when it comes to apologizing and admitting he has made a mistake. He views any concession as a sign of humiliating weakness.

What's next: Look for Don Jr. to accept the statement graciously. But Bannon has further to go with President Trump: Axios has learned that POTUS has said that he wants surrogates who appear for him on TV to "bury Steve."

Axios' Jonathan Swan reported last night: Trump has been working the phones over the past several days, telling allies they need to choose between him and Bannon. P.S. "Fake book" ... Trump tweets as he leaves Camp David: "I’ve had to put up with the Fake News from the first day I announced that I would be running for President. Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author."

"Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. So will I!"

Bannon would best show that regret by shutting the f*** up laying low. But that’s just not his style.

Why are you giving me more instructions, when I already posted the CORRECT link back here?

www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3620261/posts?page=127

The article itself does not have a dedicated page.

but I posted the link to the article at 127:

We shouldn't have to go searching a website to find an article, that is why you post the CORRECT link to the article, not the link to the website that hosts the article.

Look at the article I posted here at www.freerepublic.com ;-)

As a screw up artist myself, I have to admit I have some empathy for the man. I hope this is a Romans 8:28 for all concerned.

... Eli, astutely found...good point...some Luke 6:37 ish, too...

Screw up artists, endearing though they may be to their friends, are not good White House strategist material. There are 315,000,000 people counting on a higher degree of professionalism.

I'm going with Mark 14:21 here.

You were rabidly anti-Trump in the run-up to the nomination, and now you want to defend a betrayal of the Presidentl because of one superficial aspect of its egotistical rationale? Yeah, no.

Must have missed the apology part?

Agreed. Sounds more like an excuse to me.

Precisely.

Fredo, in spades, Bulldaddy.

Those few around here still entertaining sugar plums dancing in their head of some sloppy reconciliation do not “get” Trump, not even today.

Weakest “apology” ever, walked back nothing, and issued unconvincingly LATE.

PS: Wolf was not even the first time we had heard leaks of Bannon smack against this one and that one of Trump’s family.

I love Trump but even he kind of jumped the gun here and lashed out without being sure Wolff wasn’t just playing us all.

There have been several threads over the past months dealing with Trump's methods for finding out who was leaking. You can be sure he found out Bannon was leaking some time ago. It was an act of mercy that when he fired Bannon months ago, he did so without excoriating him at the time. But to have all this crap come out and receive no apology, and still hasn't, in my reading of what was said here by Bannon—it deserves the whip tweets for at least a week.

I have neither trusted nor cared for one Mister Bannon.

Oh, and he now has about as many "friends" as did Arlen Specter.

The fascinating similarity in your account to something the president said is his report that Steve, when he was fired,
“cried”.

Trump had evidently caught Bannon lodged inside the traitor-flavor cookie jar, before Wolf’s book was even compiled.

My view. I support Trump 100%. I support Bannon 100%.

The old moral logic problem, then: if both were drowning and you could only save one, which would it be?

His brother Race would have handled it better, but he always has his hands full with those two brats, running off into danger all the time.

Race might have wanted little to do with Steve (and Bandit, ever a good judge of character, would have bitten him.)

I’m not sure what you intend with that brilliantly crafted sentence. Who hired Bannon? Why? That is what we need to find out.

The FAke News media got played once again!

Meanwhile Bannon will be running populist Senate candidates in the primaries.......the privileged political class is still having fits. Bitch McConnell is still having Alabama rectal twitches over Bannon , you can see it in the latest presser, he’d rather see a Democrat win than Moore take a Senate seat. THAT’S BOGUS.

After Alabama, everyone now knows what a problem the GOPe has become, and its time to move ‘em OUT!

Steve is doing a great job and I wish him luck!

Yep, a very sloppy attempt at an apology.

Throwing in his own horn tooting - about him being “the only person to date to conduct a global effort to preach the message of Trump and Trumpism” - was the self-aggrandizing proof.

Say goodnight and goodbye, SS.

that’s the most retarded thing I’ve ever read. agreeing 100% with DJT doesn’t make anyone “mconnell’s boy”.

it may mean that your crush on puffy weirdo steve bannon is vaguely gay.

BanOn probably thought this missive would be the end of Trump.

Your story, of the fired up and comer, sounds very similar to Sloppy Steve (SS).
