Chron.com reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety to ask about the fastest speeding tickets from January 1, 2017, to November 28, 2017, and out of the more than 230 tickets sent to us, all of them were faster than 120 mph.
Now, the fastest speed limit in Texas is 80 mph, but 120 is still well over the limit and ranges into the category of reckless driving, which is identified by driving faster than 20 mph over the posted speed, according to local law firms.
Because this information is provided by a state agency, tickets issued by city police departments or county sheriff's offices are not included.

Any FReeper beat 181 mph on land?
Flying doesn't count.
Without the context of traffic and road conditions, does not mean much. Other than to Priaps drivers and other fart sniffers afraid to even approach the speed limit.
A significant number of those speeders were motorcyclists.
She was traveling to see her ailing 89 year old mom....in upstate NY. Going 119 in a 65 mph zone.
Most I've done was around 140 on a straight section of very empty highway in Wyoming with miles of excellent visibility. I ran the car up to the speed limiter and the computer killed the fuel pump until it dropped down to 90, then it started running again.
I've lost the cops 6 times
I've given up on high speeds, and it's about time.
Heavily weighted towards crotch rockets, unsuprisingly.
That depends on your prospective!!!
If you were to divide the State of Alaska into 2 (two) states, Texas would be the 3rd (third) largest state in the union.
Now if you REALLY want to pi$$-off a Texan, just tell them, that if you were to wait for the tide to go out, and then divide the State of Alaska into 3rd's (third's,) Texas would then be the 4th (fourth) largest state in the union.
"...a significant number of those speeders were motorcyclists..."
Every so often, there is a sanctioned event in south Texas called: “The Texas Mile”. I believe the next one is scheduled for March 23rd thru the 25th and held in Victoria, TX at the airport there. I may go to it....just to watch a little bit.
It’s amazing just how fast some of these cars, and motorcycles, really are once they’re turned loose where they can really be opened up without fear of the law.
I imagine that 181mph on a motorcycle feels like you are strapped to a rocket.
Ping.
140 in a Mercedes E430. Wide open highway early in the morning.
It felt like 60.
BTW, I took that car in for service and told them there was a slight shimmy around 120. The mechanic didn’t blink an eye and said he’d check it out. :)
206 MPH was executed by a twin turboed mustang.I remember that.I bet the driver still hasnt seen the light of day since. That was under the jail speeding.
You haven’t truly lived life if you haven’t experienced a 130 mph ride at least once.
