SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Democratic California lawmakers are exploring ways to blunt the impact of the new federal tax law on the states taxpayers.
Federal law has long allowed people to deduct their state and local taxes from their federal tax bill, but the tax overhaul signed last month by President Donald Trump caps that deduction at $10,000.

Try lowering the state income tax rates

How much do you have to earn in CA for your state tax bill to be more than $10K?
Just curious. We don’t have any state taxes here.

Cutting your taxes and spending less of social welfare would be a sane response.

“Try lowering the State income taxes.”
...Jerry won’t, so you’ll have the revenue base flee and all those social programs for the dreamers collapse in magic sanctuary land.
Then Jerry et. al. will run for their lives.
You can move Silicon Valley I and set up Silicon Valley II anywhere, like Nevada.

enate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon plans to introduce legislation allowing people to make a donation to the state in lieu of income taxes. That would allow them to claim the federal charitable deduction, at least partially getting around the change. A donation is voluntary, not compulsory at the barrel of a gun. Were they to go that route, I would as that I am not donating my taxes, but I am keeping them myself instead.

I’m sure Illinois Gov Bruce “Grossly Inept” Rauner will jump right on this, too.

For over 100 years State and Local taxes paid were exempt from Federal Taxation.
It was a really dumb idea to change that and it will hurt Republicans in 2018.
And rightfully so.
Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater are rolling over in their graves.
And to think there are those with the nerve to call themselves conservatives, and who actually advocate for this policy.
A friggin’ disgrace.

The smartest thing we ever did was leave the people's republik of kalifornia while the gettin' was good.
They are taxing all the wage earners to death to pay for the goodie goodie programs moonbeam and the legislature keep on imposing to support the illegal, the lame and the lazy.

I had an exceptionally good year in 2000 while living in San Diego. Federal income tax was $70,000. CA state income tax was $19,400. That after adjustments for mortgage interest, property taxes and tithing. I don't have the same problem now. Property taxes running $4800 annually. ID state income tax about $13,000 on a married/jointly filing. It's going to bite me this year in spite of W4 of Single/0 on the part of my wife and myself. My wife tosses in extra state tax to compensate for the higher marginal rates.
