Tax cuts. Deregulation. More for the military; less for the United Nations. The Islamic State crushed in its heartland. Assad hit with cruise missiles. Troops to Afghanistan. Arms for Ukraine. A tougher approach to North Korea. Jerusalem recognized as Israels capital. The Iran deal decertified. Title IX kangaroo courts on campus condemned. Yes to Keystone. No to Paris. Wall Street roaring and consumer confidence high.
And, of course, Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. What, for a conservative, is there to dislike about this policy record as the Trump administration rounds out its first year in office?
Thats the question I keep hearing from old friends on the right who voted with misgiving for Donald Trump last year and now find reasons to like him. I admit it gives me pause. I agree with every one of the policy decisions mentioned above. But I still wish Hillary Clinton were president.
How does that make sense? Can I still call myself conservative?

Pure, maggot-infested garbage that would make actual garbage seem like a delicacy.
Very very very well said.
POST OF THE DAY
The man's insane!
Bret, you’re a confirmed establishment ass.
“Why I’m still a Never Trumper?”
Because you are a cucked douche-nozzle?
I love how these phony Conservatives continue to embarrass themselves with their stupidity. This dummy doesn’t even realize that President Trump is living rent free in his head.
Bret, youre a pu$$y. Run before Trump grabs and breaks you.
Fixed it LOL
Who the hell is Brett Stephens? And why do I care if he is, was or will ever be a “Never Trumper,” or not?
I have become convinced that hatred of Trump is usually driven by demonic influence. Principled disagreement and opposition, whether right or wrong is fine. The hatred is occasionally driven by other factors to be sure. But it is primarily driven by darkness.
... same thing happening w/ Peggy Noonan now, btw.
It doesn't.
Can I still call myself conservative?
You can - but not truthfully.
“Stephens was born in New York City, the son of Xenia and Charles J. Stephens, a former vice president of General Products, a chemical company in Mexico. His parents were both secular Jews. His paternal grandfather had changed the family surname from Ehrlich to Stephens (after poet James Stephens). He was raised in Mexico City, where his father was born and worked. In his adolescence, he attended boarding school at Middlesex School in Massachusetts. Stephens received an undergraduate degree in political philosophy from the University of Chicago before earning a master’s degree in comparative politics at the London School of Economics.”
Well there you have it, a Secular Progressive “Mexican” Jew, whose family changed their surname!
Any guy who wishes Hitlery Rotten Criminal were president is no conservative and is probably a homosexual.
OK, just picked up the detail about his completely irrational (even in his own evaluation) preference for Hillary. 99.99% chance this guy is controlled by a very specific demonic spirit. The agreement with, and control by, this spirit is the common denominator I have observed in nearly every Trump hater. Y’all can call me nuts, and maybe I am. But I’ll stand behind this.
