Mickey Mouse. Nick Saban. Any Other Republican.
Those were some of names that got write-in votes in the Alabama Senate election as voters suggested their own alternatives to Sen.-elect Doug Jones and Republican Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race.
An unusually high number of voters 22,852 people, or 1.6 percent of the 1.3 million people who went to the polls opted for a write-in candidates, sometimes showing their humor and frustration along the way. Anyone Else, Neither, and Any Other Republican were among the written submissions.
Many of the submission were more serious as some voters followed the lead of Sen. Richard Shelby, who said he could not vote for Moore and was instead writing in the name of another Republican.

>>>but ignoring the evidence of voter fraud is not cool with me
What evidence was ignored? If you had some evidence, did you share it with the Secretary of State to investigate and his office failed to folllow through?
AS long as we’ve got Collins, Murkowski, Graham, and McCain we DON’T have our 50 votes for Constitutional governance.
I thought it impossible for Freepers to not realize this. President Trump asked AL to vote for Moore because he NEEDED that vote to further his agenda. That is as rubber-to-the-road as it gets. Down to every last vote on every issue these days. AL voters who voted for Trump just gave him the middle finger salute. Fickle, unthinking, unserious votes.
Sick, sick, sick.
Moore gave evidence and the SOS blew it off.
There were reports to the SOS of buses being brought in. There was the guy who said on TV that they had come in from all over the country to vote and got their guy elected. And though the SOS said he found out who that guy was, we never heard what happened. My guess: the guy laughed and said, “Oh, I just meant canvassing instead of voting” and then nothing was done to check whether the machines flipped votes or whether the counties that had way too many votes required actual voter ID or just overlooked everything.
There were stories of people having to cast provisional votes and being told that their votes were probably not going to be counted.
Etc. What was done about that stuff? Why haven’t we heard anything?
I’m in Nebraska. I have no power over anything in AL. All I can do is watch with disgust as stuff gets blown off as if it doesn’t matter.
All I care about is the judiciary. And all those mentioned have been pretty good at voting to approve. All the stuff that they vote against is usually a spending bill....that is the last thing we need.
You think Collins, Snow, and Murkowski are going to vote for a SCOTUS justice who is pro-life? You think they will vote to defund Planned Parenthood?
We need every decent vote we can get, and a huge number of those Trump voters just gave him a middle finger salute rather than ANY HELP to get done the massive swamp cleaning he needs to get done. Trump has enough enemies to hold him down, but with “friends” like that who needs enemies?
What in the world were you thinking, Alabama?
Yep. Just as they did vote for Gorsuch.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/04/07/us/politics/gorsuch-confirmation-vote.html
You are the biggest BS’er I have seen on FR. You exaggerate and lie easily. Get it together.
I have been saying this since before the inauguration: Pres. Trump needs to push for some sort of voter ID. After the Supreme Court judge nomination, I think voter ID should have been the next thing out of the box.
Until some sort of requirement of voter ID by the states can be implemented, these type of democrat “shenanigans” will plague and cheat our GOP candidates in close elections.
Principles have no place in the voting booth. Voting is not a statement of principle. It is a naked political act which should be aimed at achieving an objective. In this case, the objective was keeping the Senate Republican.
To be sure, principles do have a role in choosing the objective. But once the ballots are printed, it's hold your nose and cast the vote most likely to achieve the objective.
For Gorsuch the R’s managed to keep everybody on a straight-line vote. If the D’s had kept a straight-line vote it would have been 48-51 then and now with one less R it would be 49-50 - a failure to confirm.
That’s the kind of close votes we’re talking about. That is what is at stake.
When it comes time for there to be a conservative MAJORITY in SCOTUS - when it’s a liberal judge who is being replaced - will the R’s be able to keep Collins, Snow, and Murkowski on a straight-line vote?
I wouldn’t bet the family farm on it.
But Alabama voters just did.
>>>There were reports to the SOS of buses being brought in.
But no pictures or video of these buses. What exactly do you expect the SOS to do with that?
>>>There was the guy who said on TV that they had come in from all over the country to vote and got their guy elected.
This was investigated by the SOS and it was determined that the man in the video was a registered Alabama voter.
>>>And then nothing was done to check whether the machines flipped votes
That could have been determined by a recount if Roy Moore had been willing to pay for one.
>>>or whether the counties that had way too many votes required actual voter ID or just overlooked everything.
How would the SOS investigate that?
What kind of “principles” punishes a guy for being provably libeled?
With “principles” like that, who needs corruption?
Well, they got the job done. They’ve now got Mickey for a Senator. Congratulations!
There was video footage of the buses.
Where did that registered AL voter come from, and who was he talking about coming from all over the country? Where is it reported what the SOS did to check out that issue?
Were the provisional and military votes counted, so that it would be known if an automatic recount should be done?
Perhaps the SOS could have asked witnesses whether voter ID was being checked. Perhaps there could have been constant video footage to check what was being done. The one large dem county waiting so long and then reporting all their votes at once to put Jones over the top looked suspicious, and somebody here mentioned a guy who switched from dem to R saying there was ALWAYS heavy voter fraud in that area. If there always is, then the people they have running the precincts are crooked. Is the SOS just gonna assume that they’re all doing what they’re supposed to, and that’s the only verification of election integrity? If so, that’s really, really sad. Were there observer from both parties there at all times? If not, why not?
Can a person do a recount after the vote has been certified?
>>>There was video footage of the buses.
The SOS stated in an interview some of the claims, including one that five busloads of black voters from Mississippi came into the state to vote, which he said was proven false after an investigation. He also noted a claim that three van loads of Mexicans from Mexico came into the state to cast ballots and were identified and incarcerated, which he also said was completely untrue.

Here’s an article citing the investigation.

>>>and somebody here mentioned a guy who switched from dem to R saying there was ALWAYS heavy voter fraud in that area.
If it always going on in these same precincts, don’t you think somebody would be smart enough to actually capture evidence someway?
>>>Were the provisional and military votes counted, so that it would be known if an automatic recount should be done?
Military ballots, cast under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), have now been added to county totals. A news release from the Alabama Secretary of States Office says the office received 366 ballots from UOCAVA voters.
State officials have verified 2,888 provisional ballots out of a total of 4,967. They add that no additional ballots are eligible to be received.
>>>Can a person do a recount after the vote has been certified?
I do not know, but there were two weeks between the vote and certification in which a request could have been made but wasn’t.
Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, I have often wish I had the "none of the above" option when there are multiple candidates for different offices...
The video footage I saw was a lot more than five buses.
The SOS didn’t ask the guy who he was talking about that had come from all over the country?
Capture evidence. You mean like the places where there’s always over 100% voter turnout? Fat lot of good that evidence has done over all these years. Or the place in Philadelphia where the Nation of Islam guys threatened whites, and the DOJ basically had the case of voter intimidation won and then Holder threw it out? Or in MS where the Black guys testified that they had been paid by the R’s to illegally vote as R’s in the primary?
The history of SOS’s all over the country is that they don’t care about evidence. Especially when they would be called “racist” for caring about evidence... But it’s a nice thought, that somebody would collect evidence. If the fraud is through vote flipping the only person who COULD come up with the proof is the SOS. That ain’t gonna happen.
Minnie was not of age when Mickey met her though.
Two weeks to come up with how many millions of dollars, after being outspent what? 40 to 1?
All to save a process that doesn’t want to be saved, on behalf of voters who would sell their birthright for a bowl of soup?
At some point anybody who’s done battle has to ask themselves how much of their family they are willing to sacrifice for a people that’s beyond saving.
Sad, sad, sad.
Roy Moore sucked as a candidate. FReepers get their eyes clouded sometimes. As did Bannon. But hes got guts and passion, more than you can say for anyone establishment. Everyone makes mistakes.
