And I remember the brouhaha over the FLDS ring break up when all those kids were rescued.

Get a life.

I have one of those, richly blessed.

If you wish to expand on the topic of the thread (FLDS), or the Smart case (which I believe has parallels not only to FLDS but to LDS), please do so.

That’s a religion of something, but it’s not something I’d relish being in the grip of. God deliver us from all vestiges of such a thing.

Amen. True freedom is found in Jesus alone. I tried to find peace in my previous religion (Roman Catholicism), but despite all I did and all of its structure and doctrine, I was not a peace and did not know the true Christ.

My verse of the day (coincidence I guess):

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Joseph Smith, like Mohammed, invented his religion in order to satisfy his own sexual desires.

I like your confidence. Denigrating millions of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints seems to be your stock in trade. Until your arrival this was a thread about to receive my congratulations for being quite reasonable in it’s treatment of the issue and the “Mormon” Church.

I will provide a link that exposes at least two lies you have included in your screed. One might wonder how many other lies or deceptions lurk therein. I forgive your ignorance and denigration, but you might just contemplate the size and scope of your judgements.

Exactly. Also, another religion does the same thing, but behind the scenes quietly.

“Years ago I toured the “Torture Museum” in Prague. I was amazed that much of the torture was to women in a manner that destroyed their sexual organs, usually causing death. Often for violating Christian church rules. Go figure...”

Actually no torture could be used for “violating Christian church rules”. That’s not how the laws worked. Sadly, you’ve been taken in by an atheist con job. These “torture” museums exist all over the place - including St. Augustine, Florida. And they are filled with fakes (politely called “recreations”), hoaxes, instruments that were never actually used, and a lot of bad information which gullible crowds are more than happy to be separated from their money to believe.

Most people today are too dumb to know that these “museums” come right out of Marxist ideology and practice: https://www.presentpasts.info/articles/10.5334/pp.13/

At one point the Soviets even turned this gorgeous church into a Museum of Atheism (with appropriate torture devises included in the collection of course): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Isaac%27s_Cathedral

“Why Medieval Torture Devices are Not Medieval” shows that many prominent “torture devices” are fakes:

I’m not sure I agree in either case. Mo appears to be more of a blood lust for power than anything sexual especially since the appearance is at least in Islam there is a hatred of women. Joseph Smith on the other hand was doing what the living God had commanded, long before polygamy was illegal in the United States of America and way before state supported welfare or Federal food stamps.

i’ve never seen a thread about mormons that wasn’t filled with ridiculous statements.

i believe these posters would rather have muslims around them than hard-working peaceful mormons! i’m not sure where their mental illness stems from, but it is quite violently hostile.

i have to add, i believe mormonism to be a cult. it meets the 3 main criteria.

it that doesn’t explain the irrational hostility towards its members, who are otherwise quite harmless.

you’d think they were along the lines of Islam, seeking to destroy our country instead of praising it.

I do not come to FreeRepublic to engage in debates about religion, and won’t waste my time being drawn into one about polygamy. Here is a link for anyone wanting to get more information about the topic from an LDS perspective: https://www.fairmormon.org/search (search on “polygamy”)

Your falsehoods here and in years of posts about the LDS Church and its leaders are too many and too obvious to waste my time specifically responding to, so (for the benefit of any honest and fair-minded reader), I will just illustrate an obvious one here.

You slander church President George Albert Smith, who died in 1945, by claiming that he entered into polygamous marriages after 1890. He did not. His last of three marriages was in 1884:

Now, back to reading FR...

I don’t think this is the mainline LDS, however, but some offshoot sect.

I literally began to respond wit this: "Right, sounds like that crazy offshoot "catholic" group that ordains women and open homosexuals as priests and is obsessed with pro-homosexual leftist agitprop."

Then before I hit submit I did a double take: Pope Francis is already halfway there. One new guy at the top, a few years and "kooky fringe group" can become the mainstream. Scary.

This is the razor’s edge of Mormonism. You are supposed to seek the truth by having direct mystical experiences with spirits and supernatural forces, while at the same time blindly following orders coming down through a social bureaucracy.

That is the razor edge of many religions..............

just because it is in the Bible doesn’t mean God commanded it. Better start reading the Bible instead of letting others tell you what it says.

And just Whom declared the Salt Lake branch of Mormons to be the only true mormons? When Joseph Smith was killed the church shattered into several groups each with it’s own “True Prophet” and doctrinal changes. Several of these branches are still around today.

Brigham Young destroyed the Morrisite mormons and told Gladen Bishop of the Gladenites to leave SLC while he still could.
Others such as the followers of STRANGITES went in different directions.
