[FULL TITLE] Trump says Amazon should pay 'MUCH MORE' to ship packages as he claims current deal makes web giant and foe Jeff Bezos richer while the Postal Service loses money
President renews ongoing feud with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos The billionaire web executive also owns The Washington Post, which Trump sees as perpetually unfair to him Trump says Amazon should be paying more to ship its packages to consumers
The company lost $7.2 billion on shipping in 2016
But the Postal Service has posted overall losses for 11 straight years
Citicorp analysis found that the USPS systematically underestimates its shipping infrastructure costs, resulting in the equivalent of a $1.46 discount on every box
Donald Trump opened up a new chapter in his running feud with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Friday, saying the United States Postal Service should be charging the online shopping giant more for shipping.
'Why is the United States Post Office, which is losing many billions of dollars a year, while charging Amazon and others so little to deliver their packages, making Amazon richer and the Post Office dumber and poorer?' the president asked on Twitter.
'Should be charging MUCH MORE!'
Trump's jab at Amazon's bottom line is a continuation of his longstanding battle with Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post.

Translation: A private company knows how to make a profit. The Post Office is a guberment designed system who pay way too much in pension funds.
Close the post office and let private industry take over.
So you’re good with the government subsidizing Amazon?
The USPS served a purpose at one time, but no longer.
A significant amount of material shipped by Amazon is delivered by the USPS. Either as the original shipper or in their partnership with the package delivery companies.
Nope. Amazon should negotiate the best deal they can get with the cheapest carrier that can do the job at a profit.
Trump should do what he can to make that carrier the USPS, or the USPS should be allowed to die.
Amazon will buy Fed-Ex........................
I suspect that Bezos may buy UPS and tell USPS and Trump to stuff it.
He has put a spotlight on the problem. Is there someplace else he should have started?
Time to implement my five year phase out plan of postal service
Amazon has incredible buyer power, they go to the shipping companies and say “You want our business? Well here’s what we’re willing to pay”. Nothing wrong with that, but note that it’s not Amazon who signs these deals for the USPS.
Bezos feeds at the public trough
Why does the USPS give postage discounts for those that ship in bulk. If you or I go and ship a package we pay full rate. These shippers will just pass the extra cost to the customers anyway.
Closing USPS would be unconstitutional.
With all respect to my favorite president. I love amazon. They mostly use usps. But also ups. As zer0bama lowered postal rates to ridiculous low levels to try to put ups and fedex out of business it makes sense to put the prices back to more reasonable numbers. Then Amazon can deal with whomever gives them the best deal.
What about the ebay merchants in China ?
Those packages end up being delivered by usps.
How can they ship me an electrical part with free shipping for $2 from overseas. If I buy it from Allied or Newark, the shipping alone is $10.
Can you spell massive subsidy ?
The Constitution and the Post Office
In June 1788, the ninth state ratified the Constitution, which gave Congress the power To establish Post Offices and post Roads in Article I, Section 8. A year later, the Act of September 22, 1789 (1 Stat. 70), continued the Post Office and made the Postmaster General subject to the direction of the President. Four days later, President Washington appointed Samuel Osgood as the first Postmaster General under the Constitution. A population of almost four million was served by 75 Post Offices and about 2,400 miles of post roads.
The Post Office received two one-year extensions by the Acts of August 4, 1790 (1 Stat. 178), and March 3, 1791 (1 Stat. 218). The Act of February 20, 1792 (1 Stat. 232), continued the Post Office for another two years and formally admitted newspapers to the mails, gave Congress the power to establish post routes, and prohibited postal officials from opening letters. Later legislation enlarged the duties of the Post Office, strengthened and unified its organization, and provided rules for its development. The Act of May 8, 1794 (1 Stat. 354), continued the Post Office indefinitely.
The Post Office moved from Philadelphia in 1800 when Washington, D.C., became the seat of government. Two horse-drawn wagons carried all postal records, furniture, and supplies.
Buy UPS or FedEx stock as they will be more competitive price wise on the last mile
