Last week, the finance ministers of Europe's five biggest economies — Germany, France, the UK, Spain and Italy — wrote an anxious letter to their American colleague, US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin, and copied it to all senior Republican politicians in the Congress and Senate.
The letter's thrust: The draft US tax bill, if passed as written a week ago, would represent a break with global fair-taxation rules as applied to corporations, and represent a thinly disguised form of trade war.
"The United States is Europe's single most important trade and investment partner," the finance ministers wrote. "It is important that the U.S. government's rights over domestic tax policy be exercised in a way that adheres with international obligations to which it has signed-up. The inclusion of certain less conventional international tax provisions could contravene the US's double taxation treaties and may risk having a major distortive impact on international trade."

So, Ireland can have very, very low corporate tax rates (14% ???), sufficiently low to attract Apple Computer’s intellectual property, and to run up $250 billion or so of profits not taxed by the US, but WE can’t lower our rates to stop that kind of outflow?

Actually, the Ford Mustang is a runaway success in Germany, being sold out and long waiting lists at dealers. It is the second best-selling sports car in Germany this year, as well as last year. For March of this year it was the #1 seller.

With over 150,000 cars sold, it is the world’s best-selling sports car. They are all exported from Michigan. Turns out the rest of the world likes a fun, hot car too. They want Americana.

The ‘base’ Mustang model, in Germany, runs at 34,000 Euro roughly (that’s $42,200 at the current rate)....which is the tax included cost. You throw in the gas consumption, and it’s special type of consumer in Germany to buy the car. It won’t be a working-class guy.
As you outlined in your comment....2nd best-selling ‘sports car’ sold. It’s a small group of German consumers who fit into the sports car enthusiasm group. As for monthly sales across all of Germany? It’s in the 750 to 800 per month.
