The Memphis City Council has ordered the removal of the NB Forrest Statue that sits on top of the graves of General and Mrs. NB Forrest. This action breaks several laws and the order of the State for Memphis to not make any action toward the historical monument and grave site.
‘It was about keeping a subserviant section of the country in the south subserviant to its masters in the north.’
yawn...
Whether we all agree with what took place or not, the fact is many of these Civil War men served with honor against us.
*****************
Keep his statue for a museum, but know that Forrest was no Lee or Jackson. The unit under his command massacred black POW’s without mercy. After the war, he became active in the KKK.
Wow, you swallowed the SJW’s version of history, hook. line, and sinker.
Okay, then I would consider that a valid reason to take statuary down.
As for flat headstones, leave them.
It’s a matter of tangible evil, and yes this man did exist and did those things. I would not want someone to claim he never existed, and thus couldn’t have done those things.
Killing POWs is not my idea of justice. If we’re talking war crimes and they get a hearing and are found to be deserving, I would alter my thoughts.
If it was just Black POWs, that’s quite disgusting, outrageous.
That right there tells me what his reason was for joining the Klan. It really rubs me the wrong way the abuse these guys leveled on Blacks for little or nothing at all.
By the time “Sheets Byrd” came around, it was quite clear what the Klan had become, and it’s incredible to me that the Democrats let him stay in the Senate.
Pretty much confirms the party of the Klan.
I will say that Republicans ruled the roost at times, and did nothing to remove him. That’s on them too.
That’s a really impressive argument you put forth. The south simply wanted to go it’s own way. Why was this not good enough for the north? How could anyone in the north claim any sort of ownership over the future of the south to the point of killing 700,000 men in the prime of their lives? We are told it was to “end” slavery. Slavery was no longer the north’s problem when the entire south went it’s own way. The north didn’t fight a war with Mexico, or Cuba to “end” slavery there. Why then, was ending slavery so big a deal in the south once it was no longer a part of the United States? The answer, as always is “follow the money”. The north was stealing too much money from the south to give it up. Keep yawning. Your version of history no longer sells.
Nashville news just mentioned this and showed video of a crane lifting it. It’s gone. Actually, two statues were removed but I didn’t catch where the other one was.
I think you have been greatly mislead about Forrest’s involvement with the KKK. First, he wasn’t a founder. Second, he ordered it disbanded when the former Confederates were allowed to vote again and it resorted to violence. The KKK as we know it didn’t resurface until after his death in 1876. That’s the problem, people like to repeat false history and don’t take the time to see the facts.
That’s sort of what I thought I’d heard.
That the KKK was NOT the “burning and lynching” society it became later.
But I really don’t know much about it.
Anyway, Forrest himself has never sounded like a terrible guy.
Thank you. I appreciate the clarification.
You know, on maters like this and other things on this forum, it’s often a good idea to stand back and let things be revealed before taking a position.
Should have gone with that idea here early on.
Yes, the usual pap.
They limp in people who are against illegal immigration, and uncontrolled borders by innuendo.
Sorry, that’s not anything like the KKK. We don’t advocate violence, only demand our laws to be enforced.
Thanks for the link.
December 20, 2017 - the night racism ended in Memphis, Tennessee. This is just so much BS!
The other statue was of Jefferon Davis. It was in a park overlooking the Mississippi River not too far fron NBF’s statue.
Thanks. Had a little distraction in here with cats while they were talking about it and I missed where it was.
From the article.. The two park properties were transferred to a nonprofit called Memphis Greenspace for $1,000 each. The groups director is Van Turner, a Shelby County commissioner.
Strickland said the purchase and removal were privately funded. It is not known where the statues will go. Memphis Greenspace will maintain the parks.
Where the hell did your quote come from? There’s no attribution. Wikipedia? Lately that source has become heavily politicized.
Wasnt UT wanting one of these properties for something?
