Whether we all agree with what took place or not, the fact is many of these Civil War men served with honor against us.

Keep his statue for a museum, but know that Forrest was no Lee or Jackson. The unit under his command massacred black POW’s without mercy. After the war, he became active in the KKK.

Okay, then I would consider that a valid reason to take statuary down.

As for flat headstones, leave them.

It’s a matter of tangible evil, and yes this man did exist and did those things. I would not want someone to claim he never existed, and thus couldn’t have done those things.

Killing POWs is not my idea of justice. If we’re talking war crimes and they get a hearing and are found to be deserving, I would alter my thoughts.

If it was just Black POWs, that’s quite disgusting, outrageous.

That right there tells me what his reason was for joining the Klan. It really rubs me the wrong way the abuse these guys leveled on Blacks for little or nothing at all.

By the time “Sheets Byrd” came around, it was quite clear what the Klan had become, and it’s incredible to me that the Democrats let him stay in the Senate.

Pretty much confirms the party of the Klan.

I will say that Republicans ruled the roost at times, and did nothing to remove him. That’s on them too.
