Democrat Shelly Simonds took the Virginia House of Delegates seat Tuesday from Republican David Yancey after a recount had her in the lead by a single vote, reports the Washington Post. A three-judge panel still has to certify the results, but if approved, her victory will bring the 51-49 GOP majority to a rare 50-50 split.
There were recounts in four VA House districts. What were the changes in the other three? And who did the counting?
It is funny that both sides say the same thing. If a Republican wins, the liberals say it was stolen. If a Democrat wins, the conservatives say it was stolen. Lots of stolen elections out there on both sides apparently.
Only one other recount has been completed so far. The Republican won, but with a narrower margin. It seems as if recounts only narrow or overturn the margins for Republicans, it rarely works the other way around.
Here’s the thing, recounts consistently and beyond statistical variability favor one side over the other. All things being equal, some of the recounts should expand the vote count for the GOP candidate. This is very rare. Almost without variation, recounts slant toward the Democrat.
Either there are shenanigans with the vote counting process OR Democrat voters are so stupid that they can’t properly mark a ballot in the first place.
I’m sorry, but if you are so stupid that you can’t fill in a circle on an optical scanner, your vote shouldn’t count.
Your headline captured my thoughts exactly. How do Dems keep stealing elections that GOP won??? Is GOP so lame that it can’t effectively monitor the recounts or do Dems just destroy ballots on the sly? Thankfully this did not happen with Gore v. Bush but it was damn close.
I wonder how many precincts have votes than registered voters.
Re: #2
The key scene in “Key Largo”.
Virginias lost...far,*far* too many residents receiving government checks. And many, many of those checks are very large ones indeed!
Fixing America is butt-simple and everybody knows how, both wings of the Ruling Party just don’t want to do it:
1) Voter ID
2) Paper ballots
Virginia is a Voter-ID state.
Virginia is also a paper ballot state.
Hmm well, think about it, more dems than Republicans are brothertrucking 'tarded idiots who don't know how to cast a vote properly so it only figures they gain when they start looking at ambiguous ones right?
I don't really have anything to say, just imagine a hole in a wall and a guy with a bloody hand. 1 vote? ONE? Are you bleeping me? It's times like this I find it a shame this a family friendly website cause I have 4 letter words I'd like to type. I would support civil disobedience at this point.
Machines should do all counting, period. If you eff up the ballot and cast it, tough.
Disclaimer: Do I have this right?
‘It is statistically impossible for recounts to always slant one way.’
In other words, not a single recounted vote flipped toward republicans, but countless flipped toward democrats, right? And the democrats ‘happened’ to ‘win’ by a single vote?
Oh that’s rich. So rich, in fact, that it merits a ‘heads-up’ to some mass communication specialists.
I don’t know if the entire state has the same voting machines that we enjoy down here in Halifax County [VA], but our paper ballots are machine counted and can also be hand counted. A hand recount should not result in much deviation if any. And a machine recount could help keep them honest.
Our paper ballots are designed to be machine counted, vastly superior to electonic voting since all vote counting needs to be low-tech enough that everyone comprehends the process.
And we are allowed to keep slips to verify our votes. Not sure how the slips work, but one heads’ up and the next year everyone would cling to them like glue.
Not sure about every county, but here in Halifax County [VA] we have paper ballots that are machine counted. Best of both worlds, but you still need to watch the fox in the henhouse.
A quick machine recount can detect if any of the hand recounters tampered with the ballots.
Machines should do all counting, period. If you eff up the ballot and cast it, tough.
Amen.
I agree with that point. If you are too stupid to fill in a circle on an optical scan, your vote SHOULDNT count.
Never saw the movie....................

“The official wrote that although he signed off on the ballot, which was not counted a day earlier, he was confused at the time. He wrote that the ballot had both candidates’ names bubbled in for the 94th District race. He says the voter had chosen Republican candidates in every other race.
Attorneys for Democrat Shelly Simonds say the ballot should not be reconsidered.
“
Pretty bad mistake.
IT'S A TIE!
Now to draw lots.
