Undersea cables carry 97% of financial, digital transactions
British defense officials have warned that Russia, in addition to possibly Iran and China, pose an existential threat to the Western way of life by developing capabilities to target undersea communications cables that carry 97 percent of all digital traffic and $10 trillion in daily financial transactions.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, the chief of the defense staff, in speaking to the Royal United Services Institute defense think tank, said Britain and Nato needed to prioritise protecting the lines of communication. He said it would immediately and potentially catastrophically hit the economy if they were cut or disrupted, reported the BBC.
Russia in particular has been active in developing, and using, hybrid warfare techniques which include targeting communications and disinformation. Most of the cables are unprotected in international waters. The increasing submarine threat from Moscow has concerned NATO defense officials greatly. Using unconventional asymmetric warfare could cripple Western defenses and strike a severe economic blow to NATO member states.

The bigger threat to all European infrastructure are the Mulsim Invaders that Mr. BigBrit now insists are British...like the Lord Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
Like a TORPEDO or a giant pair of scissors?................
IIRC the Brits cut all the underwater cables from Germany at the start of WW1
In 2017, there are 420 submarine cables in service, stretching over 700,000 miles. They have been surreptitiously intercepted over many years.
Good luck protecting them. Simply not possible.
Put in redundant systems that could transfer to satellite.
The only way you could protect those cables is blow every potential threat out of the ocean.
It would hurt them as badly as it would the West.
The Mooslims, however...
> prioritise protecting the lines of communication <
How in the world could you protect an underwater cable? Sheath it in armor?
As a side note, the British officer is named Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach. Sounds like a character out of Monty Python.
The British couldn’t piss their way out of a circle jerk... they almost completely scuttled the British merchant and naval fleets to the point that they could barely defend the Falklands, found it impossible to rescue a sailor from 17th century pirates, and stood idly while a British soldier was beheaded in their capitol...
And Theresa may is worried about “right wing” extremists?
LOL. I guess they’re just the bearers of the bad news. Have no solutions...
You can thank “Conservatives” Theresa May, Pro-EU Amber Rudd, and pro-EU David Cameron for Manchester... May was Home Secretary under Cameron for six years prior to her hand picked idiot Amber Rudd... they had time to pass anti-free speech laws about Muslims, but let them run roughshod raping children all over Britain... kind of like America with Pedophile Island...
Meanwhile, Britain as one of the 5 eyes sucks in every single bit of private data going over those same cables.
Im back in the EUSSR
You dont know how lucky you are
boy
Back in the EU, back in the EU, back in the EUSSR
Those great debts really knock me out
They kick the Wests behind
Angelas blubbery cellulite is hanging out
That EU troika is always on my, my, my, mind
Take me to the Carpathian mountains way down South
Let me foreclose your daddys farm
All the way the bankers hands are reaching out
Come and grease your comrade's palm
I'm back in the EUSSR,
You don't know how lucky you are... boy...
Back in the EU, back in the EU, back in the EUSSR
Don’t omit their aircraft carrier has no planes ... but then, we have a state of the art littoral ship which has no ammo for its guns ...
...Russia, in addition to possibly Iran and China,...
I wouldn’t worry about Russia or China unless WW-III happens and that will be the least of our problems. Now Iran that’s a threat(if they have the means).
The old joke used to be ‘How do you sink a polish submarine?’ The answer was, ‘put it in water.’
The new joke is ‘How do you sink a British submarine?’ The answer is, ‘you can’t, there is no such thing as a British submarine!’
UK is done for.
> they almost completely scuttled the British merchant and naval fleets <
But on the bright side, they still have the manpower to draw up fancy war plans. Because the UK has lots of generals. In fact, the British army has more generals than tanks.
