Live Alabama Election Results: Roy Moore and Doug Jones Compete for Senate Seat

Alabama votes on Tuesday in a special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, now the attorney general. The last polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern. Strong support for Roy S. Moore, the Republican, is expected in rural, mostly white parts of the state and in its northern half. The Democrat, Doug Jones, aims to create a lead in the urban counties that include Birmingham and Montgomery, and across a band of largely black counties.

One critical battleground is a trio of smaller, whiter cities: Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. Mr. Moore won a hard race in 2012 by keeping things close there. Mr. Jones hopes to win the cities by a convincing margin.

Yes, she is in a sense. Moderate conservative, but socially conservative in a sense.

The only thing Trump can do now is declare martial law and hope the military backs him.

Great news!

Let it drag!

May the tide turn in Moore’s...and our....direction.

Like others have said....something just doesn’t pass the smell test, on all of this. I smell a LOT of Rats.

Murdoch is a globalist.

Oh, I know. Rupert's sons James and Lachlan are probably worse.

But... so far we still have Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Tucker Carlson, Lou Dobbs, and many other die-hard conservatives (hosts and guests). Until there's a viable competitor to FNC/FBN, I'll still tune in once in awhile. ;-)

NEVER take a sitting Senator, from YOUR own side, as a cabinet post.

A Rookie Mistake on Trump's part.

You bet.

BTW, I don't know whether "100% of precincts reporting" for a county means all the mail-in / absentee ballots are included in there. We'll find out tomorrow, but it probably can't cut too deeply into a 20K vote margin as it now stands.

Only thing left for this thread is for the honors of who gets to post response # 2,000 to this thread. I don't plan to compete. G'night all.

Well, if Moore isn't guilty of what he has been accused of, he should be suing them.

This is a crushing defeat for Trump's agenda.

Moore should have been campaigning on Sat. not going to a football game!

You must have been reading my mind :)

No offense against you of course FRiend but my thoughts about Alabamans this evening were not very nice. I was counting on them and they let me down. Oh well, here’s hoping the mid terms will turn out well.

Poor Trump, he is fighting so hard.

Yes, she is in a sense. Moderate conservative, but socially conservative in a sense.

All I'll say is I've met some of these Fox News hosts in person. Some of the "hard news" hosts *are* conservative, but... they pretty much have to give the appearance on air that they're right down the middle. ;-)

Interesting legal ramifications here. It dawned on me early this afternoon. So Moore is the AL former Supreme Court Justice. Do they have to recuse themselves?

If the DOJ gets involved, there we go again. Since it is the former Senate seat of the current AG, does he have to recuse himself? And we all know what happens then.... :-(

Someone with more legal knowledge than I can chime in.

I think they can still pick areas of irregularities. That might lead to something bigger.
