Sunday on CBSs Face the Nation, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) leaving the U.S. Senate should establish a national standard on how the Senate deals with Alabama GOP Senate hopeful Roy Moore if he wins.
Partial transcript as follows:
DICKERSON: Joining us now is Senate Democratic Whip Richard Durbin. He is in Springfield, Illinois. Welcome, senator. I want to pick up on something that Senator Collins said about the choice that senators may face if Roy Moore is elected in Alabama. And the question is: What business does the Senate have in overturning the will of the people of Alabama if he is elected? Senator Collins said thats a very tough decision. Whats your sense of it?
DURBIN: Well, John, I can tell you this. First, the decision is to be made by the voters in Alabama on Tuesday. And I hope that they will do the right thing in terms of defining their standards and values when it comes to people representing them in Washington. But we have heard from Republican senators first who have suggested that if Roy Moore ends up being elected to the Senate, he would face close scrutiny, investigation, even removal from the Senate once he arrives.

LOL. The Dems make a small sacrifice to achieve a greater good.
This was so predictable.
Gee, what about Slick Willie and his enabler, DICK? Did you forget she was your candidate last election?
I must have missed all the pictures over the last decade of Roy Moore grabbing women’s boobs a la Al Franken.
FAIL
Franken hasn’t gone anywhere, Dick Turban!
there is a national standard..innocent until proven guilty by due process...liberals might ought to read the constitution they took an oath to defend.
There’s the ‘Rat strategy laid out on the table. Franken was cannon fodder for the get Moore then get Trump strategy.
So, yeah, Moore is elected, the Senate refuses to seat him, the deciding vote being Al Franken, who then reconsiders and stays. Nice try, guys.
One difference: Moore denies the accusations; Franken can’t.
So all we need now to unseat someone is an accusation, no matter how old, no swearing under oath, no cross-examination, only the word of a person whose entire life seems to be, at best, unstable? That’s the standard Durbin wants?
He might want to rethink his position as I am sure there’s at least one woman in Illinois who has a recollection of when he was a young man and touched her.
Franken didn’t exactly resign. I’m not quite sure what he did. He hemmed and hawed and equivocated, a bunch of self-righteous malarkey told by an idiot, signifying nothing.
I just dismiss everything these creeps say. Democrats are the party of debauchery.
Did Franken leave? Hmmm, I thought he said he was “going to leave” but he’s still right there trying to keep Judge appointments from happening.
Moore has not had accusers from the last ~30 years. Franken is still on his game, with plenty of objective evidence.
Oh—And let’s not forget about FDR, JFK, LBJ, BJ Clintoon, and Teddy Kennedy while we’re at it.
So when the names of the Sinators and House groprers/assaulters who used OUR $$$ to pay off their victims we will see the same removal of them, right Dick Durbin???
12/8 Exclusive: Taxpayers Paid $220K to Settle Case Involving Rep. Alcee Hastings Roll Call / FR Posted by springwater13
The US Treasury Dept paid $220,000 tax dollars in a previously undisclosed agreement to settle a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment that involved Florida Democrat Alcee L. Hastings, according to documents obtained by Roll Call. Winsome Packer, a former staff member of a congressional commission that promotes international human rights, said in documents that the congressman touched her, made unwanted sexual advances, and threatened her job.
At the time, Hastings was the chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, where Packer worked. Hastings has called Packers charges ludicrous and in documents said he never sexually harassed her.
Until this evening, I had not seen the settlement agreement between the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) and Ms. Packer, the congressman said in a statement Friday night. This matter was handled solely by the Senate Chief Counsel for Employment. At no time was I consulted, nor did I know until after the fact that such a settlement was made. Hastings said that the lawsuit that Packer filed against him and an investigation by the House Ethics Committee were ultimately dismissed. I am outraged that any taxpayer dollars were needlessly paid to Ms. Packer, he said. (Excerpt) Read more at rollcall.com
