~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~
~ Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 ~
On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States.) In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets. At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor. Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack. Information from here...LOTS of pictures

I was thinking about you both today. but especially Mr.Luv.
Remember on the whale watch how everybody would run to both sides of the boat when the whales came?
After the whales departed. Mr Luv sat down and said “How did you manage THAT?”
I said, “I called them to me.”
He said “I believe you!”
LOL

Thank you, Ma!
We must always remember their sacrifice!
I pray for our Military past and present every night.
*sniff*
It doesn’t seem enough to just say thank you to them.
How could we ever pay them back?

We’re doing ok. Just trying to get a handle on the fact that she’s gone.
Sort of like with BB. :(

Thank you, radu. It was hard to see her go, but I’m sure she was happy to be free from the pain and struggle to breathe. :(

It was obvious from all you’ve said about her how much she was loved so of course it was hard to see her go. She was a special person in your lives and her presence will be missed.
But I hope the knowledge she’s free of pain now will give y’all some comfort.

It has. I haven’t been able to actually cry...sometimes shocking things just dry me up instead, but I’ve got a heck of a headache.
I’m glad I took off early last night. I got up at nearly 6:30 this morning and went to check on her as I always did when I woke up. The moment I saw her, with her head tilted to one side, I just knew. Hubby had checked on her at 4:30 and she was still breathing, though it was very labored and rattly.

I havent been able to actually cry...sometimes shocking things just dry me up instead, .... Nothing wrong with that. People react to things different ways. Some cry for days. I react as you do.
You know she isn't suffering any more and that could be a factor. It was apparent her suffering was a torment for you. No one likes to see a loved one suffer. She's in a better place now, reunited with those who went before.

Good evening, MS B...I don’t think we can really pay them back, but we can remember the sacrifices they’ve made for us and pray for their safety now.

I’m sure the tears will flow...I just don’t know when. I, too, am very relieved that she no longer suffers, but we sure do miss her. Hubby especially, since he spent so much time with her even before she came to stay with us.

They’ll probably flow at her funeral. That’s when I cried for my dad when he passed.
Or you might cry tonight when you go to bed. The tears will come when they’re ready.
You’ll both miss her for a long time, especially your hubby. :-(

Well, she said she didn’t want a funeral. But I sort of insisted on at least having a graveside service in OK. They were going to transport her by plane and just take her to the cemetery without any sort of anything, and that just didn’t feel right. She has family that want to be there to honor her and also people who went to church with her for years.
So as soon as we learn that she will leave here, we will drive up as will hubby brother and his wife, and have that service for her.
It will hit me when I least expect it that she’s not here anymore. Then I’ll be able to let go.
How was the weather there today? I saw that parts of TN had pretty good snow!
People all over Texas are either moaning or celebrating that it snowed today. We didn’t get but just a few random flakes early this morning. But is IS cold! And damp.
