Was involuntary manslaughter one of the charges filed? If not it is possible that the Murder charge was an “overcharge” and a mistake on the prosecutor’s part. The ricochet puts doubt into the intentional act.

Case made by public defender: BLM agent’s gun left it in unlocked car & disappeared, ‘shooter’ found it wrapped in a T-shirt under a bench, was looking at it & it fired “accidentally”, ricocheted off a concrete pillar/piling - if it had not glanced off, would have missed Steinle by 78 ft. Jury heard nothing about his 7 previous felony convictions or that he had been deported 5 times already.
Mark Thiessen (FOX) said San Francisco killed Kate - if they were not a sanctuary city, shooter would have been in custody & would have not been on the pier that day.
what a travesty of justice. If Kate were my daughter, I would put out a contract on this perverted scum of the earth, at any cost.

IMHO Steinle's murder was a big reason Trump was elected. It validated his "Mexico isn't sending us their best" speech right on the heels of the elite media declaring Trump unelectable precisely because of it.
I truly believe this was a turning point in his campaign, making Donald Trump a serious candidate.
I'm not surprised by the verdict either.
