Senators Bob Corker and Jeff Flake are demanding that the tax reform bill include a trigger
email from Senate Conservatives Fund

Senators Bob Corker (R-TN) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) are demanding that the tax reform bill include a trigger that automatically raises taxes in the future if tax receipts fall below projections.

This is a bad idea. Raising taxes is never a good policy, but this provision also adds complexity and uncertainty to the tax code that will limit its impact on economic growth.

Bob Corker and Jeff Flake want people to believe they're concerned about the deficit, but if that were true they would not have supported so many bills to increase the debt limit and increase spending.

If there is going to be a budget trigger, shouldn't it automatically cut spending which is the real problem in Washington?

The tax trigger should be rejected and the tax rates in the bill for individuals should be lowered so no American, regardless of where they live, has to pay higher taxes.

As we mentioned before, we also believe that any side deal to allow for the passage of health insurance company bailouts should be categorically rejected. This is something Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) promised the moderates in the Senate and it's a bad idea.

The only way to make health coverage more affordable is to repeal Obamacare's benefit mandates, which have forced Americans to buy things they don't want...

Washington is addicted to spending. Its their “answer” to every problem. We must break the cycle before it breaks us.

How about instead we require a % cut in spending and entitlements across the board? No? Why not?

I’ll even pacify the hawks and say a % cut in spending and entitlements - defense.

I don’t like this tax bill, so I do hope it fails. Any tax bill that just shifts wealth from one group to another is just repackaged socialism. Real tax reform cuts spending...but American politicians seem unwilling to do so, for the obvious reason that it hurts their own bottom lines.

Corker and Flake are lame duck RINOs. They are in no position to demand anything. I suspect their real motivation here is to throw sand in the gears in a malicious effort to get back at Trump and any others whom they believe wronged them.

Corker and Flake are just the “Designated Mavericks.” They seem to rotate. And once Flake and Corker leave, there will be new “Mavericks” to provide cover.

Gotta love that uniparty!!

Politics is a scam and we’re suckers for playing.

Unfortunately Flake, Corker and McCain are dangerous because they are no longer accountable to constituents. And all three HATE President Trump.
Let’s pray they have enough respect for their colleagues to do the right thing because if they side with the Dems, many of their colleagues will lose their jobs.

It doesn’t shift wealth. It reduces and widens the tax brackets and reduces the tax rate in each bracket. Also makes us more competitive in the world by reducing the business tax. Will create a Reaganesque economic boom.

There is no such thing as a RINO. This is standard operating procedure for the gop faction of the uniparty.

How about government spending is reduced eash year by a percentage equal to the gain in tax revenue in the previous year.

I heard that the child tax credit is going away, have you heard that? I am all for a simplified tax code, but shouldn’t we cut spending? I also am not convinced that more people won’t be paying higher taxes to make it revenue neutral, but admittedly I have more research to do. thanks for the response.

NO MORE DEBT! NONE! NOT ONE CENT! Cut spending and THEN cut taxes. Tax cuts that aren’t paid for add to the national debt. And debt = slavery. Anyone voting to add to the national debt should be tried for treason.

How about a trigger to reduce sending instead? Why is that impossible?

Two Senate failures who will not stand for reelection because they will lose in the primaries are going to determine taxes for the entire nation? Sad, sad, sad.

These two are among a number of “Obama Republicans”. They love to make themselves uber-wealthy by skimming off the outrageously high Federal spending.

These Senators are thieves - in the true sense of that word - and we are their victims.

".... include a trigger that automatically raises taxes in the future if tax receipts fall below projections."

No, no, no, no. That's how a Washington swamp creature responds. As Republicans (and I recognize my naivete here) they should respond by saying

"We demand a trigger that automatically stops certain government programs if tax receipts fall below projections"

See the difference in mindset, Senator?
Yours is "Government must remain the size it is or grow"
Yours should be "Government should be the size necessary to perform the functions laid out by the Constitution and no larger"
