FReeper Canteen ~ Sunday Chapel ~ A FEW GOOD WORDS ~ 26 November 2017

A FEW GOOD WORDS

The accuracy of lie detector tests has never been completely decided upon. Although it is inadmissible as evidence in court, even the proponents of lie detector testing agree that it is not always accurate. Among the first lie detectors, considered by some to be the most accurate, was the donkey's tail! That's right, in ancient India, a suspect would be escorted to a darkened room.

Only three would be present: the accused, the interrogator, and a donkey. The person being questioned was told that the donkey would bray if his responses were not truthful, and he was then asked to hold the donkey's tail.

Forerunners of the modern-day lie detector include a portable unit, developed in 1930. As early as 1899, an Italian physiologist invented what is called the hydrosphygmograph, which simply recorded variations in pulse. Later came the galvanometer and the pneumanograph to measure electric conductivity of the skin and respiration. But none of these early devices was as tried and true and accurate as the donkey's tail!

Remember, the suspect is in a darkened room with a donkey. He was told to hold the tail of the donkey, and if a lie was told, the donkey would bray. But the suspect was not told that the donkey's tail was covered with black soot! So those who feared the donkey's telltale bray, in the darkness of the room dared not to touch the donkey's tail. They would emerge with clean hands… thus proven guilty!

Honesty is, always has been, and always will be, the best policy! It is priceless. Honesty paves the way for successful living. Honesty is a virtue. Ask yourself, "Have I been truthful in all things today. . .to my relationships. . .to myself? Have I been straightforward? Did I earn respect?"

Honesty takes plenty of courage, but the rewards are tremendous. Folks will say of you, "There is a person we can trust, one on whom we can depend to act fairly, justly, considerately. This individual is worthy of promotion and recognition." And all this without using the donkey's tail!

Hiya radu!

Today has been a cold, clear and then rainy day and I've just been kicked back inside relaxing and watching College football. A lot of good games today.

Wazzup your way?

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...did you get any leftovers?

A Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.

Are you and Penny getting out to walk? Did you get a pub night?

It’s 3 right now at my house, and I need to venture out to the mailbox.

Yuck, definitely a day to stay inside. Not the best weather up there today. But you had football to occupy the afternoon so it wasn’t a total loss. :-)

Hubby had taken off with his cousin for the day so I drove to the military museum at Monteagle. They brought back a LOT of goodies last weekend and were putting some of the items out and I pitched in to help. They’d already put a lot out this week and the whole place looks a lot different than it did the last time I went through it. That’s going to be the case for a while as they get more stuff up from Tupelo.

Howdy, LUV.

How was your day? I hope there were no more unnerving surprises with Dulcie.

It was a good day here....and hope yours was too!

No surprises from Dulcie. I just wish there was something for her to DO. She can’t see to play cards or read [and she hates her new glasses and says they don’t work], and she can’t hear to watch TV shows or talk. When I sit with her to keep her company, we just smile. Kind of frustrating for her AND for me.

How are all the kittehs doing? No illness this week other than the usual sniffles and allergies? Was it warm enough for Church to get his one-on-one outside?

Glad there weren’t any surprises! Don’t need any more of those.

I take it she doesn’t have a hearing aid. It would be nice if she could at least hear so she could chat with y’all or watch tv.

Kittehs are all fine. Willow and Lorien go to the vet Monday - - time for those “big girl” surgeries.
It wasn’t too chilly today but it wasn’t warm enough to take Churchill out for a walk and won’t be for a while. :-(

I went up to the military museum this afternoon and got to help put some of the Tupelo items out. They brought back 12 of the large crates packed full last week. They also managed to bring “Hambone”, the big fiberglass mule, back. They weren’t sure if they’d be able to but they got lucky.

The museum looks so different now and it’s going to look different continually for a while as more things are brought up from MS. And it’s going to take a year or more to bring it all up.

No, ma’am, we sure don’t need any more of those surprises! I think hubby ordered a monitor for her room. I think he needs to keep the 2nd one at his EAR while he sleeps. LOL!

She has hearing aids, but they aren’t much better and she can no longer change batteries or put them in with any ease because her fingers are numb...positional neuropathy I believe they said it was. They began going numb while she was in the rehab facility in OK.

I’m glad it wasn’t frigid up there. You’re not going to be happy till next summer. LOL! I’m just ticked that ours is staying so unseasonal! Makes it really hard to get “in the mood” for the holidays.

Glad you got to go to the museum and it’s great that they were able to bring “Hambone” back! I’ll bet the kids will love him. Just hope they don’t try to ride him! LOL!

Getting a second monitor for him to keep next to his ear while he sleeps sounds like a grand idea. LOL

Well just the crummy luck she can't feel to put her hearing aids in any more. But then, if they don't work well any more there really isn't any reason to wear them. Certainly makes it difficult to find things to occupy her time, doesn't it?

It got up to 60 degrees this afternoon but there was enough of a breeze to make it feel nippy. Too many clouds as well. I let the other cats go out but they were ready to come in when I got home. I didn't even have to chase Shags down!
A cold front came through just before sunset and now it's getting cold. Going to be cool the next couple of days and maybe reach low 60s a day or two next week. Wish you and I could swap! LOL

Hambone looks good in his new home. I don't think there's any worry about kids trying to ride him. :-) He's pretty loaded down.

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Hope you had a peaceful day.

It’s 2 degrees here right now, but I’m inside and cozy. I have to go out for gas tomorrow, but it’s supposed to warm up into the teens.

Oooo BRRRRR! That’s too cold! Guess I won’t whine about our 32 degrees. LOL! It’s still going to be mighty nippy tomorrow when you head out to gas your car but hey, it comes with winter in AK.

It was a fun day here, heading up to the military museum for a while this afternoon. Unless something comes up, I plan to go back Wed. to help clean a bunch of uniforms. They’ll just be brushed off, not washed, and we’ll put them on hangers with those garment bags dry cleaners use. There are over 500 uniforms so this job will take a while to complete.
