A FEW GOOD WORDS
The accuracy of lie detector tests has never been completely decided upon. Although it is inadmissible as evidence in court, even the proponents of lie detector testing agree that it is not always accurate. Among the first lie detectors, considered by some to be the most accurate, was the donkey's tail! That's right, in ancient India, a suspect would be escorted to a darkened room.
Only three would be present: the accused, the interrogator, and a donkey. The person being questioned was told that the donkey would bray if his responses were not truthful, and he was then asked to hold the donkey's tail.
Forerunners of the modern-day lie detector include a portable unit, developed in 1930. As early as 1899, an Italian physiologist invented what is called the hydrosphygmograph, which simply recorded variations in pulse. Later came the galvanometer and the pneumanograph to measure electric conductivity of the skin and respiration. But none of these early devices was as tried and true and accurate as the donkey's tail!
Remember, the suspect is in a darkened room with a donkey. He was told to hold the tail of the donkey, and if a lie was told, the donkey would bray. But the suspect was not told that the donkey's tail was covered with black soot! So those who feared the donkey's telltale bray, in the darkness of the room dared not to touch the donkey's tail. They would emerge with clean hands
thus proven guilty!
Honesty is, always has been, and always will be, the best policy! It is priceless. Honesty paves the way for successful living. Honesty is a virtue. Ask yourself, "Have I been truthful in all things today. . .to my relationships. . .to myself? Have I been straightforward? Did I earn respect?"
Honesty takes plenty of courage, but the rewards are tremendous. Folks will say of you, "There is a person we can trust, one on whom we can depend to act fairly, justly, considerately. This individual is worthy of promotion and recognition." And all this without using the donkey's tail!

A few years back, a theft suspect was brought into a police station. The interrogator put a spaghetti colander on the suspect's head with a wire leading to, but not connected with, a copier. Another officer put a piece of paper with the words "He's lying" in the input tray of the copier.
The interrogator asked the suspect, "Did you commit the theft?" The suspect denied any knowledge of it. The other officer pushed the button, and a piece of paper came out of the copier with the words, "He's lying."
The suspect confessed on the spot.
True story.

Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Matthew 6:4
When Denise met a hurting young woman in her church, her heart went out to her and she decided to see if she could help. Every week she spent time counseling her and praying with her. Denise became her mentor. However, some church leaders didnt notice Denises efforts and decided to assign a church staff member to mentor the woman. No one, they commented, seemed to be taking care of her.
While she was not expecting any credit, Denise couldnt help but feel a little discouraged. Its as if I wasnt doing anything at all, she told me.
One day, however, the young woman told Denise how grateful she was for her comfort. Denise felt encouraged. It was as if God was telling her, I know youre there for her. Denise still meets with the woman regularly.
Sometimes, we feel unappreciated when our efforts dont get recognized. Scripture, however, reminds us that God knows what were doing. He sees what others dont. And it pleases Him when we serve for His sakenot for mans praise.
Perhaps thats why Jesus gave us an example by telling us to do our giving in secret, so that your Father, who sees what is done . . . will reward you (Matt. 6:4). We need not look to others for recognition and praise; we can take heart that God knows when were faithful in serving Him and others.
Lord, forgive me for the times when I crave others recognition and praise. Help me to serve for Your glory alone.
God sees everything we do for Him.
In the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 67), after Jesuss strong caution against hypocrisy He gives us the proper motivation for our service to Him. Our reason to share with open hands and to raise our hands in prayer is out of love for the Father, who is the source of all that is good. The approval of the Father is better than any praise we may receive from others. It is the reward from Him that we should desire and pursue.
Because God sees everything we do and knows the motives of our heart, how might we seek to please Him this week in our service?

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
