( If they want so called marriage equality then they should support polygamy too.)

In many states the money for the foster home comes from ‘child support’ taken from the father or parents income, if any.

well your foster mom was a bit8h. there is an adoption subsidy and there is also a way to get the kids’ college paid for. There is a tax credit for legal costs of adoption.

I wasn’t a foster but I moved out when I was 17 and got an apartment across the street from John Gottis club on 101st Ave.
Parents were not great, but going it alone at that age was no problem for me and lots of other people did it.
Not a fan of kicking out someone when they are 18 but they are adults, not too many foster families are going to let someone live in their house until they are 30.
Foster families for the most part are in if for the money and not necessarily the greatest people around, adopting a kid is a real commitment and those people are really good Samaritans.

That stipend might have been the thing that allowed them to keep you.

In the early 1960s I was in Foster Homes with two of my older brothers on Phoenix,AZ. The first place where we were sent to was two big fat nasty woman with about 8 or 10 dirty kids running around. We had to stay in the fenced in back yard all day and ate once a day. I saw a kid take a extra piece of cornbread off the tray and the woman slapped the crap out of him. After about a month of this the three of us just walked out the front door together down the street. About an hour later a cop pulls up to us and tells us "Get in." The next Foster home was in Apache Junction where we had the run of the house and the people were nice to us. She said "Eat when you want but clean up after yourself." Wow! never heard that before. I could go on and on.
