Democrats' success in this month's elections was bigger than expected, and was fueled in part by strong opposition to President Trump...
We asked Republicans and Democrats what the off-year elections could mean...
1. Good news for Democrats ....The Democratic base was energized [in Virginia]. The 2008 Obama coalition of millennials, minorities, single women and affluent educated suburbanites...]
2....can the lessons of Virginia work in states like Missouri and Indiana? ....there were limits to the Democratic victory in Virginia. They got their own coalition out, but they didn't make inroads with the Trump vote....
3. Democrats need a message that resonates outside of the suburbs In many states next year, Trump will not be the radioactive factor he may have been in Virginia this year.
4. Republicans are bracing themselves ....when a president's approval rating drops below 50 percent, his party loses an average of 40 seats. So Republican operatives are telling their clients who represent suburban seats and those in districts that Hillary Clinton won in 2016 to get ready, raise a lot money, and pay attention to their constituents.
5. The solution for Republicans is GOVERN! Republicans say their main task is to show that they can govern. They need to pass the tax bill and make sure the government doesn't shut down. What they can't control is the president and his Twitter feed both of which loom over the 2018 campaign.

No.
I listen to NPR for comic relief. I imagine these guys sitting behind their mics with their hipster hats on trying to act all worldly and wise as they put up the same high quality of reporting and self important rants they did at their high school newspaper.
No blue wave in sight when you look at Virginia’s 2017 elections and compare them to the 2016 election.
NPR is delusional, and their audience eats this stuff up.
They think themselves clever if they can remember how to get home, three times out of five...
All wards of the State, all takers, the beneficiaries of set-asides, "programs", entitlements, and free stuff.
"Who's your daddy?"
Who knew that they were smoking a lot of dope at NPR? Mara’s cognitive dissonance is startling! Either that or her wishful thinking “gland” is working overtime.
VA is blue now due to high populations of government workers, immigrants and government contractors in northern Virginia. Drastically cut government and the need for government workers and contractors declines.
This is a lot more simple than political junkies make it.
When the Legislature does not do what the People want, they kick them out. In NH, we have seen huge swings from 2006-2016, back and forth, as the voters vent their frustration.
In Congress, we have a situation where both major parties are 100% committed to blocking what the People want, and to making sure they don’t get it.
In our system, when the guys in the majority don’t do what you sent them there to do, your only voting choice is to send in the other guys.
That’s exactly what will happen in 2018.
NPR and Liasson still getting paid with money extorted from the taxpayers.
This fantasy that NPR is going to be defunded will never be realized.
These degenerates are laughing all the way to the bank and will make up as many lies as they damn please, they are the masters and we are the wage slaves
A few weeks ago I found a bunch of clips on how Hillary would win in a landslide and Trump did not have a chance. This sounds just like those pre-election videos.
Throw in the fact that Gillespie was a poor candidate.
He was boring and represented the GOPe Jeb Bush faction. The Republican base was not motivated to come out and vote in the same numbers as the 2016 election (Which was won by Hillary Clinton by less that 5000 votes).
Republican voters do get complacent sometimes on off years, while the rat agitators always vote (whether in person or by fraud)
.
NPR reporting on just two elections in solidly democrap states.
(Message: Ignore all of the preceeding elections and cross your fingers)
NPR should have gone the way of the Dodo bird in ‘95, but Noot pulled their fat out of the fire.
Noot is the re-giftable gift!
.
No, but there is one in the toilet bowl.
.
Excellent Surf Report Mr. Thompson!

The writer has to produce words.
Some words were produced from pretty much thin air
Hypothetical speculation with no real basis
Yeah exactly. Trump received more votes in VA than Northam did.
