TAIPEI/BEIJING (Reuters) - Air China Ltd has indefinitely suspended flights between Beijing and Pyongyang, citing poor demand as North Korea faces growing sanctions from the United States over its nuclear weapons and missile programs.
An official in the company's Beijing-based press office, who only gave his surname as Ding, told Reuters on Wednesday that flights were suspended because "business was not good". He declined to comment on when flights might resume.
The suspension by China's national flag carrier comes shortly after a visit by a senior Chinese envoy to the city and also coincides with a U.S. decision to put North Korea back on a list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Air China flights to Pyongyang, which have traditionally operated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, began in 2008, but have frequently been canceled because of unspecified problems, state media has said.
Last year, Air China halted flights seasonally for winter but resumed them in March. So far it is not selling tickets for any 2018 flights, according to Routes Online.

Hang on just a second...
I’m glad you posted that so I didn’t have to...
Ding Dang !
It could be just a business decision, but I wonder if President Trump had anything to do with this.
perhaps making sure no chinese planes in the air should ‘something kick off’??
A previous article that I saw went out of their way to claim it had nothing to do with Trump's successful trip to Asia.
I wondered that, too. It is strangely coincidental that ceasing to sell tickets for 2018 flights coincides with the US getting serious about sanctions. If sanctions caused it, you have to wonder why flights started the year Obama was elected and ended the year Trump took office.
Frankly, I don’t think there is any coincidence in the dates, nor do I doubt that Obama favored North Korea getting nuclear weapons. (As did Hillary and Kerry.)
Probably to stop the flow of intestinal worms from entering their country.
I kid you not. I once heard a lib emphatically state they are “entitled” to them because we have them.
“Ding Dang!”
Or, as Mike Cernovich might say: “Ding Dock”
As it is, losing that contact is a HUGE DEAL for them and there’s likely other stuff going on that we don’t hear about...such as cutting way back on cross-border trade (just speculation on that, but stuff like this usually doesn’t happen in a vacuum).
In any case, what counts here is not whether Trump, or any other American (for that matter), had anything to do with it, but that it gets done. If it was China’s idea, that’s fine too.
One thing for certain - Air China is the flag carrier of China, they would NEVER make a move like this without approval from Beijing (or Peking, as they still call it in the airline world)...this is China’s government ending the service, even if they use a bit of deniability.
This is significant.
Walla walla bing bang
Oooh eee oooh ah ah
Well, getting to NORKIE will not now be easy. Train only from China or Russia, Charter Boat from South Korea (risky) and horseback through China and Russia.

There is no way the Chinese would lose face by even hinting that the US made them do something.
I heard there was maybe one or two flights in or out daily just to begin with.
China is finally waking up to the idea that having a failed nuclear state run by Pol Potbelly on your frontier but-not-that-far-away border is bad for business.
Business (outlook with USA if we keep this kimchee weve been pulling for decades up) is not good.
