WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday unveiled plans to repeal a landmark 2015 order that barred internet service providers from blocking or slowing down consumer access to web content, and said the regulator will prevent states and cities from adopting similar protections.

Confused...I thought NN was allowing throttling some over others to make it “governmentally fair”...so repealing what Obama did would remove such limits, right?

It’s kind of interesting that the DOJ wants to block the ATT-Time Warner merger because cause it gives a distributor too much control over the way it treats content, but the FCC wants to give internet companies more control over how they treat content.

This is a terrible idea. Ending net neutrality will lead to increased censorship and government/corporate control of the internet.
No conservative who understands the issue can support this. Unfortunately, clueless old boomers will go along with ending net neutrality, on specious “free market” grounds, then will complain when the government and liberal corporations make it hard for them to access right wing content.

No. Net neutrality required internet service providers to treat all data the same. Now ISPs will be able to give preferred status to data streaming from firms willing to pay for that status.
Net neutrality (also network neutrality, Internet neutrality, or net equality) is the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet the same, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, site, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication.
Actually, with NN gone providers can give preferences to content providers they agree with and even charge more for content they don't agree with.

It will be interesting to see the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth if some big ISPs throttle Free Republic.
Interestingly, on an earlier thread on this topic, many *supposed* conservatives opined that ISPs were, indeed, public utilities and should therefore be subject to being broken up or otherwise treated as such.

What is being struck down right now, came from his administration.
I admit to not fully understanding the ramifications of this, but I’d have a hard time believing the Trump administration is screwing anything up worse than Obama’s did.
That is exactly correct, and is the reason why liberals are so in favor of it.
Some Internet users suck up lots and lots of bandwidth downloading movies and things, and some users are very light bandwidth users. NN would allow providers to charge EVERYONE more equally to spread out the cost of the heavy users to everyone. Sort of a Communist approach.
Also, providers currently throttle heavy users to try and protect the rest of us. NN would disallow that... instead providers will have to charge all of us extra so they can pay for services to this subset of customers.

My take on it is that there were things in that Obama era goop, that was not good. Otherwise Trump’s team would have left it alone.
This is NOT GOOD!
Even a stopped clock is right a couple times a day even if just for a second or two.
This is one of the few good things that happened during the obama error.
This not good at all.
We’ll see how it plays out. If it comes up a big negative, I think Trump will address it.
He doesn’t tolerate bad policy if he can do something about it.
