On Monday afternoon, some journalists provided another small nail in the coffin of the media’s credibility when they lost their collective minds on Twitter over White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders asking reporters to share what they’re most thankful for this Thanksgiving week.
Sanders still allowed reporters to ask questions and most responded with thoughtful answers, but a few ignored it (including the Associated Press’s Zeke Miller and Washington Post’s Jenna Johnson). For some journalists on Twitter, they lambasted Sanders for her “bizarre” exercise that one labeled “harmful to a democracy.”
NPR’s Domenico Montanaro was the most offended, showcasing how he honestly needs to lighten up and be a normal human being. In a series of tweets, he argued that the simple request was somehow a threat to the country’s stability:
The Daily Beast’s Asawin Suebsaeng was right behind Montanaro in having a meltdown, firing off a series of tweets, starting with how he’s “thankful for not having to go to the briefing room every day” in a subtweet about Sanders. In the next three tweets, he was far more direct:
Freelance journalist Kate Bevan was similarly annoyed, tweeting for Sanders to “fuck off” and “[h]ope the reporters said they were thankful for a free press.” For the record, a number of them did, with Bloomberg’s Margaret Talov and ABC’s Cecilia Vega citing that as their sole answers.
BuzzFeed News editor Hayes Brown was mortified, expressing grief that anyone went along with Sanders’s question:
Showing how partisan some in the media are, Politico’s Timothy Noah stated how upset he was that no one in the briefing room responded with “Robert Mueller’s ‘wide-ranging request’ for DOJ documents” in the Russia probe.
Washington Blade White House reporter Chris Johnson disliked it, but was able to convey it without spouting off:
Children’s TV producer Steve Marmel tweeted with snark:
For one tweet of note just outside journalism, Hillary Clinton confidant Philippe Reines tweeted that it was equal to one President Trump cabinet meeting in which his cabinet secretaries showered him with praise to the media’s horror.
Like Reines, a number of tweets complained that Sanders “forced” them to say “what they’re thankful for.” The horror! Thinking positively about the good things we’ve all been blessed by in our lives! Oh no!
Once the briefing was over, Washington Post columnist Josh Rogin proclaimed that he’s “thankful that awkward briefing is over.”

They just can’t stand having conservatives in power.. Everything and anything will trigger outrage and temper tantrums.
It just demonstrates how far removed they are from living a normal life. I mean, I could understand if they rolled their eyes, but to be mortally wounded by such a request during a holiday week...SAD!!

I saw it, live. It was brilliant. Of course, some of these little narcissists took it and happily ran with the gesture because it gave them an opportunity to talk about themselves. Some cited faith. One thought she was being so clever by citing the 1st Amendment which, of course, was then parroted by a few of the other witless lemmings.
They’re a bunch of petty little bitches. Even the women.
What law or statute requires the White House even have press conferences?
To a large degree, everything is voluntary.
These little ungrateful leach gnats need to be squashed, to put them out of their misery, so their squish can decompose and recycle into the dirt, and become useful as fertilizer.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t want my food or grass being near the toxic fertilizer these little socialist gnats would become.

My wife and I love the press conferences it is the only true coverage of the WH that we get in Maine.
Sarah is great. So cool and collected. Making these ingrates say what they’re thankful for was awesome today.
The truth is it put most of them on the spot because they are not thankful for anything. Nothing. Most liberals, which most reporters are- are truly miserable. They hate this country, they hate ordinary people, they hate white people (which for many is self-hate) they think they are smarter than everyone else, and know the answers to everything. The idea that nearly all their solutions do not solve anything and indeed usually cause more problems makes them miserable. They blame conservatives (which they think all ordinary people are conservatives) for everything because otherwise they would have to admit their solutions don’t work. They would have to admit they are not the smartest people with all the answers.
Liberals I know are so narcissistic they don’t love anyone but themselves. So they do not even feel thankful for family, friends- even their children seem to not have meaning to them. But how attached can you become to children when you think it would have been perfectly fine to murder them if you had decided to for whatever reason or no reason before birth?
Liberals are not thankful, and if they were to think something was very special and even begin to feel thankful they would believe they deserved all the credit, so they would be thankful to themselves? Most don’t believe in God or any higher power, so they think it is silly to be thankful.
They are smart enough to know most of the masses, even the brainwashed masses would not like them thanking themselves or stating there is no reason to be thankful. So they must throw a fit about even being asked to say something about being thankful.
Most liberals are extremely miserable and hateful, they had no answer to her request that would play well in most of this country, so they became angry, like spoiled children they are throwing a tantrum.

As a retired newspaper reporter and editor, it’s depressing to see how my profession has fallen into the hands of spoiled, petulant — but oh so very clever, at least in their own minds — children.
I worked for a bunch of liberal-leaning editors back in the 1980s and 90s who were still basically decent people. They didn’t care I was a Republican as long as I got my facts straight and my copy in on time.
They’re all gone now, retired or passed on. No new generation has risen to replace them, or seems likely to.

These liberals would gladly and sycophantically tell Obama they are grateful he is in the whitehut if he was still there, but since it is Trump, they protest that they are grateful for anything at all.
