Southern border agent killed, another injured while on patrol in Texas

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed in the line of duty Sunday while patrolling the Big Bend Sector of Texas along the southern border with Mexico.

Agent Rogelio Martinez, 36, died of injuries sustained while responding to “activity” near Interstate 10 in the Van Horn Station area, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Martinez and his partner, who was injured, were transported to a hospital. The partner, who was not identified, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Spokesman Carlos Diaz told The Associated Press the FBI has taken over the investigation.

The border needs to be guarded by heavily armed U.S. troops, as it is in Israel. Great way for young troops to learn discipline and patience. Relocate some of those bases from Washington, Oregon, Illinois, New York, Maryland, Delaware. The Blue States don’t support the military so they’ll be glad to see the bases repositioned along the southern border. A well built wall that is constantly monitored by American troops will cut illegal crossings by 99.5%.

A federal jury on Thursday convicted two members of a violent Mexican drug cartel in the 2011 ambush slaying of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agent, U.S. authorities said.

Five other Mexicans in the Los Zetas cartel pleaded guilty earlier to federal charges in the shooting death of ICE Special Agent Jaime Zapata and the wounding of another agent in central Mexico during a roadside attack on their car by gunmen in San Luis Potosi, a central Mexican state. All seven were extradited to the U.S. on federal charges.

“With today’s guilty verdicts, a total of seven members of the violent Mexican drug cartel, Los Zetas, have now been brought to justice for the ruthless ambush that took the life of ICE Special Agent Jaime Zapata and that injured and could have killed ICE Special Agent Victor Avila,” U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips of the District of Columbia said in a statement.

It’s appropriate that Texas not only has the death penalty but doesn’t hesitate to use it, these turkeys deserve it when caught and tried.
