A prehistoric lion cub has been found in permafrost on the bank of Tirekhtykh River of the Abyisky district of Yakutia by local resident Boris Berezhnov. The young beast's head was resting on a paw in frozen ground for up to 50,000 years, as shown in these amazing first pictures.
The preservation is so good that it raises hopes of cloning the species back to life, he said.
The discovery is seen as better preserved than two tiny cave lion cubs found in the same Siberian region in 2015.

I’m glad it’s the Russians doing this and not the US. Our country has too many alarmists who see catastrophes under every bed and would block cloning attempts.
He spotted the lion and broke into an aria?
WTH?
I was real young when I first say them, and the concept of actors in suits was beyond me. At one time I went to a county fair. They had a guy in a smokey bare outfit, and the guy really freaked me out.
I’ve been Santa for the last 25 years, and there’s a certain year when some kids have trouble. It’s about 3-5. One year they’ll be great. The next year you freak them out. The next year they’re okay again.
To this day, I despise monkeys.
7-8 ft long and 700-800 lbs. What could go wrong!
And so the Cat Vs Dog rivalry was born!.......................
“I wonder what happened to their climate? I wonder if it was man made change back then. Or is it possible this stuff goes in cycles?”

Think comet strike.
“Im not sure I would call a dead lion in perfect condition. Its Dead!”
Are you going to quibble about every little detail?
Not Evvvrryyyy little condition....just the, like, really Big little conditions. ;-)
It’s not dead! It’s sleeping. (Monty Python script)
Beowulf9 I am going to ignore that horrible pun. There is no need to clone a Megalodon. Haven’t you seen the TV show on cable (Animal Planet?) that details the hunt for LIVE megalodons going on even as I type this.
Complete with shots supporting the return of Megalodon such as whales cut in half with one bite, ships sunk with live videos from the sea bottom. Man, just when I was about to go in the water.
Ayla? Jondalar?
Check out post # 16:
"--Diet: Meat"
I think caveman is made of meat.
LOL!..................kinda ‘generic’...............
Humans killed a lot of their prey, in many cases starving them out, and I’ll bet they worked hard to kill the lions, too.
Amazing what 20-30 little weakling but extremely cunning and communicating humans can do with spears, bows, arrows and fire.
They had a guy in a smokey bare outfit, and the guy really freaked me out.
Ill bet.

Now that A SIGHT I wouldn't want to see, good buddy!
Nope. What we need is a couple of million cloned genuine Vikings. They could round up the muzzies and drive them back to the sand holes they came from.
Clone an extinct predator? Not while the lions and tigers on the planet are both threatened species and poachers are destroying what’s left of the rhino and elephant.
