LOS ANGELES — The number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer characters on U.S. television shows have reached record highs, and advocacy group GLAAD said on Thursday that their stories were more important than ever given moves in the United States to roll back LGBTQ acceptance.

In it annual report on diversity on the small screen, GLAAD found 329 regular and recurring LGBTQ characters across all broadcast, cable and streaming TV platforms, including the first asexual and non-binary characters.

GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis said TV was a critical place for the portrayal of LGBTQ characters and their lives.

"At a time when the Trump administration is trying to render LGBTQ people invisible, representing LGBTQ people in all of our diversity in scripted TV programs is an essential counterbalance that gives LGBTQ people stories to relate to," Ellis said in a statement.

When our youth can’t figure out what bathroom to use, then what else can they accomplish?

It would be good if the article named the shows so can be sure to avoid them.

I used to watch “Walking Dead.” Now it’s got two homos, a couple of lezzes, a whole slew of superwomyn, and very little plot. It seems to have come down with PC-itis and is warming up for a shark jump. I now refer to it as The Walking Dud.

I don’t find the shows to be interesting to me. I never watch them.

Not to throw a wrench in the works but I have a question to ask. Are the actors portraying these characters actually, in real life, one of the LGTBQ individuals? They should be. Which would stimulate the job market for the they are representing, thereby giving those groups employment opportunities that would not have otherwise been available. Secondly, would Hollywood be willing to actually employ these individuals to portray themselves or their group in productions?

Our TV consists of ‘Live PD’, Homicide Hunter, Cops, and similar programs.
Sprinkled in ‘Brave’, ‘Seal Team’ and a couple other shows. Cooking show or two, Gordon Ramsey, lemme think......Some Nat Geo stuff, and that’s about it.
Oh, ‘Mountain Men’, the phony Brown bush people just for kicks, ‘Life Below Zero’, ‘Ice Road Truckers.’

Almost every comedy or drama show has been saturated with LBGTQwerty characters. Not for us.

The PLOY: Let's PRETEND that there are far more gays than there REALLY are.

Their tactic is to make people believe that it is "normal" to be gay because there are so many of them.

(Actual percentage of GAYS in American population - Poll shows Americans think 25 percent of the population are lesbians or gay men. The actual figure: less than 4 percent.)

Yup, noticed that.

Add to the mix all game shows and game show hosts are becoming ethnic.

Everywhere on TV it is not OK to be white.

The one homer on the Walking Dead is straight in real life. The lesbian is straight in real life. I don’t know about the other homos, cause there are quite a few.

There are three openly-gay anchors on MSNBC cable news shows....and one on Fox News that I know of.

>>>"that their stories were more important than ever given moves in the United States to roll back LGBTQ acceptance."

Actually, it has done just the opposite. My wife and I used to watch The Closer and then Major Crimes (when the closer ended). We had to stop watching Major Crimes because they kept pushing the gay "Rusty" character. We really liked the show...but we refuse to be indoctrinated.
