After being relatively well-behaved, MSNBC eventually burst out gloating over the Democratic Partys tidal wave victories in Virginia as pundits Rachel Maddow and Lawrence ODonnell celebrated and particularly over the stunning victory of transgender House of Delegates candidate Danica Roem that they deemed a night in which history is being written by movie writers.
ODonnell was later assisted in the triumphant debriefing by New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who encouraged Democrats to put some referendums on the ballot on guns, on reproductive health, on a lot of other issues, so, I think is a good omen for Democrats in 2018.

They did get control of the VA HoD or near to it, anyway. That is a substantive loss.
It’s also not surprising. Unchecked illegal immigration, voter fraud, and milquetoast VA GOP allowed all of that to happen.
Underscores the need for the wall and more immigration enforcement.
;-)
Next they will take back Massachusetts and Connecticut, and then New York! Before 2020, they will win back the entire west coast. They better start working out. They have lots of celebrating ahead of them.
Virginia has about 5.5 million registered voters. Almost 4 million votes were cast in the 2016 presidential election, with Trump getting 44.4% of the vote. Yesterday, 2.6 million votes were cast, with Gillespie getting 45% of the vote. Furthermore, Northam's 1.4 million votes is short of Trump's 1.8 million votes. That is HARDLY a referendum. Indeed, I didn't do the math, but I suspect those percentages are statistically equal to one another.
As for NJ, keep in mind CC got elected on the tails of Corzine and his inept (even by NJ standards) leadership. He was re-elected right after Hurricane Sandy, bolstered by hugging Obama. His arrogance (even by NJ standards) and coattails carried over to Kim Guadagno. She didn't stand a chance.
Finally, in NYC, Comrade de Blasio won 62% of the 21% of eligible voters that turned out. 'Nuff said.
So go ahead, MSM and statists of all kinds...think this is a sign of the Trump Nation train starting to derail. PLEASE...PLEASE...keep thinking that way, all the way to 2020.
What are they so excited about? VA is a blue state. The governor lost a 13 point lead and only won by a couple percentage points. The republican did not embrace President Trump. This was not a referendum on Trump, unless you want to say those who stayed home did so because Gillespie was an anti-Trump establishmentarian.
MSNBC now has three openly-gay anchors.....Madcow (weeknights), Steve Kornacki (weekends) and Thomas Roberts (mid-day).
O'Donnell and Maddow could barely contain themselves when announcing this news.

Our changing demographic culture is ruining our Republic. We’ve admitted or have been invaded by a hundred million immigrants who are not assimilating. It’s been a quiet coup. Now it’s in our face.
I’m beginning to think it’s over.
WE HELD THE GOVERNORSHIP!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!
They should consider themselves lucky as the RINO’s ran a RINO instead of a Conservative.
They both ‘lost it’ long ago. Two real zeros.
“Furthermore, Northam’s 1.4 million votes is short of Trump’s 1.8 million votes. That is HARDLY a referendum.”
I didn’t look into the numbers, but a map I saw on the Times’ election website seemed to indicate lighter turnout in the eastern part of VA ... it almost seemed as if Dems had typical turnout for a Gov. election, Repubs were down. I wouldn’t bet my life on that analysis, but it certainly seemed that way.
If true, they had better get rid of Karl Rove and his idiotic methodology that loses elections. Seriously, the man had only one big win (2004) ... he almost lost 2000 to a moron and he’s been a total disaster since 2004. If they would have opened up to Trump, I could promise you that last night wouldn’t have been a shellacking.
Sorry ... western part of VA ... not eastern :-)!
I fear it’s ‘over’ simply because we don’t have the will to do what we see other nations do when they are backed into a corner.
Look at pics from Egypt a few years back, pics from Catalonia recently, these people go out and make it known they are not going to take it anymore.
Us? We sit here and write inane messages to one another from the comfort of our homes. That is why we will fail, imho.
This is just a harbinger or taste of what the GOP-e should expect to wake up to a year from today, if they don’t change their stubborn ways and get on board the Trump train with us unwashed plebs.
A Democrat winning in VA isn’t exactly earth shattering. LOL!
I find it amazing that they are so happy that Democrats won in two blue states.
Nothing really surprising happened last night.
Virginia has had one Republican Governor in the last 15 years. Trump lost that state in 2016.
New Jersey, well Christie was there 8 years and it was time for change and Christie had been not just lousy, but arrogant and did not help the situation one bit. NJ had 4 previous Democrats in office since 2002. So again no big surprise.
Trump lost both states so no referendum on him one way or another. Let the Idiots Gloat, nothing really changed.
I admit to not being up on Virginia politics, but I have to say...
When Democrats call retaining a governorship "historic" and "stunning," it sounds like they are making more of it than it really deserves.
I know they think they've stemmed the tide of statehouse and special election losses from vacancies due to Trump filling out his Cabinet, but really...
When keeping a seat is a victory, they are not in a good way.
As for New Jersey, it seems that they regained what they should never have lost in the first place. Democrats winning New Jersey is not the victory, Christie taking it from them was. It's too bad that he couldn't keep it for Republicans, but Republican victories in New Jersey are rare with all the shenanigans Democrats pull in New Jersey to keep control.
