Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who walked off his Army base in Afghanistan in 2009 and was held captive by the Taliban for five years, was ordered to be dishonorably discharged from the Army by a military judge on Friday, but received no prison time for desertion or endangering troops.
At a sentencing that took only minutes, the military judge, Col. Jeffery R. Nance of the Army, also reduced Sergeant Bergdahls rank to private and required him to forfeit $1,000 a month of his pay for 10 months.
Prosecutors had sought 14 years in a military prison. President Trump, who has labeled Sergeant Bergdahl a dirty rotten traitor, quickly criticized Fridays sentence, calling it a complete and total disgrace to our Country and to our Military.

Someone has incriminating photos of Col. Nance.
Something curious about this case...beginning with the swap of terrorists, Pres Obama’s meeting with Bergdahl’s parents and now this slap on the wrist for a deserter when good men died looking for him. Disgraceful.
I am a vet, but my son is now a Marine, and so will be my daughter aged 16, and my other son who wants to be a Marine aged 15. Not one of us joined for freebies, and yet today my son said there were a handful who did, and he knew more who joined the Army, and Navy for the freebies.
Sickening.
thank you for your service Nana too. if only we had today what we had 20 years ago minimum.
Traitors deserve to be shot by a firing squad.
Today we let them off a slap on the wrist. Whatta country!
I can’t remember what talk show it was but they had this lawyer on talking about how all the law schools the past 40 years or so have been churning out liberal lawyers and now judges. Now,even in the military. Of course just look at all our liberal CEOs courtesy of their commie business school professors.
Not sure what freebies anyone would be getting. Everything in the service is earned. There are no 8-4 days. Expect to work a lot of weekends and holidays and be deployed at least one of 3 years.
But you already know this.
Eddie D. Slovik must be rolling in his grave, fast enough to sharpen a bayonet.
Are you joking? Of course there are freebies. free college, VA loans. Hell my Marine son said they are looked down upon in the Corps.
Anyone joining the military for freebies is a joke, whether that is free college, loans etc to stay reserve.
I say that as a vet, my son a marine, my other kids waiting to join, or my father, my grandfather. etc.
You join for love of country if you can do the job.
Number one, they fail to count the men killed in the search for Bergdahl.
And then there's this statement:
Yeah, the guy suddenly develops a severe personality disorder when he faces a possible firing squad.
This is one of the ugliest chapters in US military justice ever.
The only silver lining is that Deplorables are going to remember this at the polls.
