Washington (CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

Has this been reporter anywhere except CNN? I havent seen it on Fox.
Just followed this guy. He certainly has some interesting things to say.
Reports are that the indictment was sealed because of classified evidence. That does not suggest one of the Trump kids getting swept up for some bogus perjury charge.
It’s almost certainly not Flynn. His Federal case was being investigated in the Virginia district. These indictments were handed up in the D.C. Court.
I believe it was reported on Fox News at 10 EST, maybe earlier also.
CNN hasn’t said anything about who it is, and it’s not clear that they were given a name. They’re reporting that someone is about to be arrested, but that’s it.
Comey..you mean Mueller’s “Homey” NO WAY is that ass clown getting indicted..someone said here that CNN looks all giddy, if that is the case its NOT Comey they love him(First they hated him but since he hates Trump they love him) but someone else said that CNN looks constipated so I really have no clue..but if its Comey LOL man oh man I am gonna be eating some major crow and I wouldn’t mind, probably tastes like chicken :-)
It could be some B player not on our radar. Mueller has to release his budget next week. Americans will get a look at the massive amount of tax dollars shelled out to these lawyers for hire.
Mueller has to show something to justify the $$$
“Who is combover?”
Comey.
I can recall Flynn offering to testify before Congress in return for immunity.
Who is this Name Redacted person and how reliable is he/she
Yeah, Name Redacted is pretty interesting. I read Thomas Wictor, Larry Schweikart, Saul Montes-Bradley and a couple more when I have time. This is pretty interesting stuff right now.
Probably indicting Trump for calling Fatboy Kim Rocket Man
Speculation on CNN sounds like Manafort on tax or financial charges unrelated to Trump/Russia.
No Mueller is on team Clinton and won’t do a thing to her. Look how lucky she was with that Freebeacon story. She will never get in trouble.
There is nothing Mueller can do that would more thoroughly justify his existence than an indictment of James Comey.
Whole lot of speculation here and too much of it positive. The swamp: Mueller, Rosenstien, Comey, McCabe, and the Clintons all participated in the Uranium deal, their futures depend on taking out Trump and continuing the coverup. Watergate and Iran-Contra are just be JV trials compared to whats about to happen. Never could I have imagined the depth of corruption we are witnessing.
