I'm not talking about those who are in such severe pain that they cannot function. Pain is their life; nobody wants to make them give up what for them is life or death. These are not the people who have caused the horrific situation that now exists.

I'm referring to pain killers being prescribed when they aren't necessary, and over prescribed when they are. For people who don't have that kind of pain that never goes away, coping without addictive poisons is the best way to avoid addiction.

He’s trying to tell folks....stop writing so many damn prescriptions. These ARE dependency drugs!!
////////////////////////////

This “opioid epidemic” is a direct result of Obamacare implimentation. Doctors prescribed drugs covered by many insurance plans prior to obamacare. Many people marginally dependent on these prescribed medications could no longer afford them when the high deductible plans replaced their “free drugs” plan. They were forced into the arms of the street dealers and had to resort to more dangerous drugs to maintain their habits. Often heroin or other opiates were available dirt cheap on the street initially and once hooked the dealers upped the prices.
Doctors will be blamed for this because they initially prescribed these medically. Actually, doctors were forced to prescribe them because of the risk of malpractice suits and because patients would simply go to a new doctor who would prescribe them if their original doctor didn’t

<>Courtesy of our southern border and our leftist jerks.<>

Yep. Declare war on illegal immigration.

I’m leaning toward martial law along, and maybe five miles inland of, our southern border. Quick execution of drug smugglers. No endless appeals from the usual social justice enemies.

When we learn just how and why the money is going to be spent, and a requisition is submitted with justification, then the dollars can roll.

Tell potential illegal immigrants that you are going after drugs and the suppliers, and that they might not want to get in the way.

Also, if we really have a "war on drugs," it should be called "war on drug suppliers" and it would mean the dealers and their suppliers are enemy combatants. Treat them as an invading enemy army.

I hate that they use the word “epidemic...” no one goes out and robs a store so they can get money to buy the flu.

DISEASES are epidemics. This is BEHAVIOR unless someone is holding you down and dosing you.

Most of the heroin in the U.S.A. comes from South America. Some of it also comes from Mexico.

It’s not about being perfect enough to be a Freeper. It’s about being responsible enough to be an American. It’s your fight. Fight it.

The left didn’t want the money to help; they wanted it to build an extensive faux-industry around this problem, with income streams for “workers” who will reliably vote Democrat. Once money is flowing to a new batch of government workers, those receiving it NEVER want the problem fixed - then they’d have to get a real job.

This is a huge problem here in NJ, but I don’t want tax dollars thrown at it to create a new segment of the government workforce.

There were about 15,000 prescription opioid deaths last year.

Why limit it to prescription drugs? There were an additional 35k non-prescription opioid deaths in 2016.

Re: “Why limit it to prescription drugs?”

Thanks to the MSM, Trump, and many others, most people think that “opioids” just mean prescription pain killers.

In fact, heroin and non-prescription fentanyl are opioids, they are illegal, and they kill three times as many Americans as prescription opioids.

Tragically, the entire issue of opioid abuse is being falsely blamed on greedy drug companies and greedy doctors.

What that means is that most drug companies will stop making prescription opioids; the price of each legal pill will double or triple; most doctors will refuse to write opioid prescriptions; and hundreds of thousands of people with severe pain will have to needlessly suffer.
