3 aircraft carrier strike groups in western Pacific ahead of Trump visit
A third U.S. Navy aircraft carrier strike group entered the western Pacific, the Navy announced Wednesday, just days ahead of President Donald Trumps first trip to Asia next month.
The USS Nimitz joined the Roosevelt and Reagan in the region. The Nimitz announcement came a day after the Roosevelt entered the western Pacific.
The deployments came as U.S., Japanese and South Korean maritime forces were conducting a trilateral exercise aimed at improving ballistic missile defenses.
On Monday, Japan's defense minister asserted that North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities had grown to an "unprecedented, critical and imminent" level, requiring "different responses."

P!
300,000 tons of diplomacy.
I’ll be Your Huckleberry!
Pull That Smokewagon!
I Love This kind of Diplomacy.
The “rocket guy” will be sorely tempted by a Trump visit to do something nasty and maybe something other than a rocket launch.
I wonder what the establishment is offering kim fung punk to sue a nuke when the President is there.
Boom, coupled with the Japanese announcement that the situation is critically imminent... would not be surprised if the USA bombs the norther boarders of NK and deployed bomb-lets to prevent Russian and Chinese expeditionary forces prior to any real engagements as the hands off warning. If China enters NK, expect them to lose all their little Atolls.
Expect China to lose all trade with the USA! Yeah!
I support Trump on all things...except this. Visiting the DMZ is beyond stupid. There is no need for this. It looks like they are trying to provoke another Pearl Harbor.
Not sure you appreciate the gravity of the situation. Or the potential fallout should it get out of control.
When our President does what needs to be done it won’t be pretty - for quite a few of us, you can be sure of that.
Decades of appeasement by wimps on both sides of the aisle has put us in this predicament. We’ll do what needs to be done, but it’s a mistake to assume the American people will be immune to hardship and loss.
Free Traitors and gloBULList got us into this situation. I hope all of them shut the hell up.
Me, I think if the brown smelly stuff hits the air circulating machine the Navy flyboys better hurry up and get their 3 kills in before the Air Force guys show up and take away some of the fun. NK's 35 Mig 29s might pose a threat on paper, but I doubt their pilots have enough flying hours and training to have developed tactics to use them effectively.
Just like in Korean War I, a Korean War II will begin with a fly off of DPRK AF assets to China. They will operate out of Chinese air bases. The ROE’s will not allow pursuit.
Your correct!
3 to 1 ain’t fair.
Our pilots should fly Blind.
I'm kidding obviously. In real combat the notion of "fair" is stupid. A "fair fight" means a fair chance of losing and when it is life or death - I would want and I want our military personnel to have every "unfair" advantage we can create for them...
I am reminded of the scene in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” when Harvey Logan (Richard Kiel) challenges Butch for gang leadership via a knife fight. Paul Newman waves his hands and approaches Logan saying, “Hold on, hold on. This fight doesn’t start until Harvey and me agree on the rules.”
“Rules?? In a knife fight?!” yells Logan.
At which point Butch is close enough to successfully kick Harvey in the groin and win the knife fight.
He won’t be visiting the DMZ.
While the aircraft carriers are impressive, they will just act as the centerpiece for their group, and director for its antimissile defenses.
There is a huge area around a carrier within their impressively high powered detection equipment, not just radar, and any threats that enter that area are instantly targeted.
Typically they are designed that, with their group, they can create a very “layered” defense, that is extremely hard to penetrate.
And they are likely supported underwater by some incredibly deadly submarines. In this case motivated that there should never be another Cheonan incident from a NorK sub.

President Donald Trump remained secretive about his plans to handle North Korea but admitted he was sending military forces its way.
We are sending an armada. Very powerful, Trump said during an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo. We have submarines. Very powerful. Far more powerful than the aircraft carrier. That, I can tell you.
Trump said he would not tell the media how he was planning to respond to the ongoing bellicose rhetoric coming from North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
You never know, do you? You never know, he said, stating that he would not be like former President Barack Obama, who would announce his attack plans in the Middle East in advance.
