Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Fox News Radio host Todd Starnes tied the controversy over President Trumps call to a Gold Star widow to NFL protests over racial injustice and what Gingrich claimed is the truly anti-American nature of much of the left.
In a conversation with Gingrich on his radio program, Starnes called criticism of Trumps comments to Myeshia Johnson an ugly attempt by the media to take a swipe at the president.
Theres a bloc of people, unfortunately, who hate Trump so deeply that they spend all day every day trying to find some way to smear him or attack him or defame him and it distorts things, Gingrich replied.
He added that he tells audiences who criticize Trump that theyre getting their information from reporters and systems that dislike him so deeply they couldnt tell the truth if their life depended on it.
I think this ties right back in to this National Football League debacle with the national anthem, where American values are just under attack, Mr. Speaker, Starnes said.
Gingrich replied: Well, theyre absolutely under attack
.What Trump has done in part is hes brought out into the open how truly anti-American much of the left is and how much it stands for a set of values that all of us, if you looked at it carefully, would find horrifying.

Yup, Newt isn’t perfect. But he walked the walk back in 1994 when he won the house back with the Contract with America and he got good stuff done. Newt as a free agent can be a loose cannon, mostly good but sometimes really bad. But Newt taking orders from Trump sounds pretty good to me.
I like Gingrich - hes probably one of the smartest and best educated political guys around. I wish he had an official position in the Trump White House.
There has never been a strategist in the history of the Republic like Trump. The guys is so many moves ahead of the opposition it is amazing.
The NFL battle is just one clear example. Trump set a trap for these a*sholes that the idiot Marxists just couldn’t help themselves from walking straight into.
Trump is now the living personification of the American Republic in a way no man since Washington has been. To oppose Trumpism is to declare yourself an enemy of Americanism
I’ll be shocked if Newt does not play a major role in the Trump administration by 2024.
You better believe, Trump is in this for the long haul. He’ll be very much aware that he has guys like Rudy, Newt, Sheriff Clarke and more, on the bench to bring on when other start to flag.
The hard core left has colonized America much the way MRSA will colonize a body joint, waiting for the right agitation to explode into life-threatening disease.
>> It began the resurgence were seeing today during bammys regime.<<
Wonder if there’s some correlation there? /s
How, in the end, does America win, if the cost is the loss of Americas great pastime of the last sixty years?
>>Didnt need Gingrich to bring that out - most conservative Americans already knew/know that.<<
Unfortunately many Americans, including many Conservatives, find it expedient to simply ignore that unpleasant reality. And unless that changes, the anti-American left will become an increasingly dangerous enemy threatening our constitutional liberties.
>>That is what I find horrifying<<
And rightfully so because it reveals how shortsighted and selfish large segments of the population have become from being subjected to decades of leftist, liberal, progressive, socialist, communist, Democrat Party anti-American indoctrination.
>>Trump is now the living personification of the American Republic in a way no man since Washington has been. To oppose Trumpism is to declare yourself an enemy of Americanism.<<
Yep, that is exactly the way I see it, and I’m not a bit shy about saying it whenever I have the opportunity.
