Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) said it is no surprise that Republicans are trying to permit oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, calling the President Trumps cabinet the Big Oil all-star team.
Markey led an effort to oppose any attempts to allow oil drilling in the as part of the fiscal year 2018 federal budget. The Senate passed a budget on Thursday that could pave the way for drilling in the refuge since it requests that the Energy and Natural Resources Committee craft a bill intended to raise $1 billion in revenue over the next decade from oil drilling.
This Republican budget scam to hand over the wildest place left in America to Big Oil should be removed from the budget and put on ice, and we will stand and fight on the Senate floor to make sure that this does not happen, Markey said Tuesday during a news conference on Capitol Hill.
Rick Perry, to [Ryan] Zinke to [Scott] Pruitt to [Rex] Tillerson, its the Big Oil all-star team and the Arctic refuge has always had a bulls-eye on it, so its not any surprise that they are coming for it even as weve reached a point that we are exporting oil, he added.
Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) said Republicans knows that drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a controversial topic that would not see the light of day, so slipping it in the budget would be the only way to move it forward.
This is the last wildest place we have in America, and the tribes there and the species that are there are counting on us to make sure that this doesnt happen, he said.
Bennet said the U.S. does not need to permit drilling in the Arctic since oil prices are low.

Do any of these wankers ever see beyond the end of their nose?
We have fracking now - abundant oil - no need to drill in the Arctic
Just because we’re at a low point in the cycle.
When oil prices are high they say “no need for drilling because oil prices it takes years before we see the production to bring prices down and oil prices will be low by then”.
They have an excuse for EVERYTHING.
Dem (dim) senators think prices are low because they get their gas free.
Mockey is a moron! Dems, in general, are morons!
What would economy look like if gas were $1 per gallon?
Tap it and cap it.
But these same Democrats claimed publicly that more drilling wouldn’t lead to lower prices to begin with.
We’ll know they’re sincere when they remove Federal incentives for solar and wind.
Bingo!
If there is no demand for it then the oil companies won’t bid on the permits so what’s the harm in allowing the sale to go forward?
We need more refinement capacity.
It’s more about securing the future of our country through energy independence.
Face it, the middle east will forever be unstable, and it’s senseless to stick our heads in the sand — no pun intended — and allow ourselves to be at the mercy of oil-producing countries that decide to weaponize their supply against us.
Severe restrictions, production cuts and sky-high fuel prices can do enormous economic damage to us. We are foolish not to hedge against that by developing our own supplies while we can.
Drill, baby, drill...
The Eraser Man needs to ERASE Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.)!!!
It would guarantee a booming economy, and Trump’s second win.
JMHO.
To fat or to lean.
The energy industry is always complaining. Glad I got out of that rat race when I did.
Miss it some times, but I get to sleep in my own bed now.
