Of all the candidates for utopia, Stockton, California would be on the bottom of my list. But a 27-year-old mayor, with the backing of a foundation, is trying for utopia, as seen by supporters of the Mommy State: Universal Basic Income. Futurism.com writes:
Stockton, California, is about to become the first city to test government-supported universal basic income in the U.S. The program is the idea of the city's 27-year-old mayor and will be primarily funded by the basic income advocacy group Economic Security Project.

Years ago, the compny I worked for wanted to build an asphalt terminal in Stockton.
It was to be on a former Army base, owned by the city.
After the state air board, the county board and neighborhood boards got done with us, we built the plant in Reno.
Down the street from my house? LOL! Probably been paved over by now.

OK, I might be catching a hint of the problem that’s coming.......gee, wonder how this will end? It’s so hard to predict.....
Stockton just emerged from bankruptcy. And they didn’t really fix their structural debt in so doing. Plus it’s a Mexican Gang paradise. One of our former neighbors moved there from the East Bay twenty years ago to go into “farming.” They bought 60 acres, the husband died of a heart attack driving an 18 wheeler, trying to make ends meet and service his debt. The “farm” was “stolen” by a neighbor, and now the wife is trying to stay afloat in government-subsidized housing. Oh, and the husband was a forcably retired PanAm captain.
I suppose this kid is too young to know that `utopia’ is Greek for `no place’.
Maybe he means dystopia.
How can a bankrupt city support anyone’s income, much less “universal basic” blah blah?
Wow.
Lets’s see......
One million dollars divided by five hundred dollars.....
That’s two thousand people.
And that’s just one month.
It’s baloney.
It’s buying votes for Democrats.
“Most of the financing for SEED will come from basic income advocacy group the Economic Security Project (ESP), which pledged $1 million to launch the program.”

Once that million is gone (which won’t take long, esp with leftist admins running it), the moochers are going to complain.
It’s going to work as good as all the “free bike” programs have worked.
A normal person would say “How do we measure success?” of a program like this. The liberal measurement of success will be the number of people grabbing the free money. But just how DO you measure the success of a program that gives away money?
The cost of living in the utopia of Stockton just went up $500 or whatever the amount ends up becoming.
If the big valley needed an enema they would stick the hose in stockton.
Bum City
Stockton, just recently out of Bankruptcy protection for being unable to even pay for police or fire protection
now wants to pay for a very expensive and harmful, losing program like CommieCare?
this political hack is NUTS!
LOL! Free stuff at local stores if and when they try to end this new and improved entitlement.
“How can a bankrupt city support anyones income, much less universal basic blah blah?”
How can people post without reading past the headline?
