NFL player protests during the national anthem continued this week, defying pleas by Commissioner Roger Goodell and some team owners to have everyone stand for the song.
While fewer teams had mass protests this week than in the early games, some players still kneeled, while others stayed in the locker room for the pre-game national anthem. The prior protests have sparked fan outrage and might have hurt television ratings, with some angry observers and at least one sponsor vowing to boycott the league in a counter-protest.
A meeting is set this coming week between NFL management, ownership, and the NFL Players Association to discuss ways to curtail the demonstrations and channel the player passions. It is at least the third such meeting, but none have completely ended the protests.
So far, no mandate on standing during the national anthem has been issued. But the Commissioner has indicated that players should stand, and several owners have indicated their displeasure at the activism. Most notably, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, head of the franchise nicknamed Americas Team, has threatened to bench players who protest during the anthem.
But players such as Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung have encouraged their fellow athletes not to cave to demands that they curb protests.

The power of the corrupt old media empire. Kill it and everything bad changes.
For your information, the second team is always the home team, and that’s for all sports.
Thus, if it’s the New England Patriots vs. the New York Jets, then the Jets are the home team.
Yesterday I was curious of the stands too, and took a brief look at the Miami Dolphins vs. the Atlanta Falcons being played in Atlanta. The stands were noticeably empty when the camera occasionally went up in it. I would say it appeared 1/4th to as much as possibly 1/3 was missing. Anyway, I looked for about 10 minutes and then turned it off. Anyway, that was my football for the entire weekend.
Last week to substitute for it I watched 2 college football games on Saturday. This is because since I was about 5 years old I’ve always had football on Sundays and holidays. Not anymore...
Anyway this weekend was 10 minutes total for the entire Weekend and I was fine. I think next week and going forward will be zero. Not that hard to break.
The only way I would ever consider watching the NFL again is if the NFL fires the Commissionaire, the players that protested every week, heavily fine and kick out players that do this, apologize to all the fans and the country,
never charge the military to come to the games to present the colors, fly overs, etc...(yeah they do), take politics out of the sport, and then maybe I might watch again? At minimum I might watch it next year or in 5 or 10 years? Done with it this year.
When did that change? Never even noticed.
And, the people continue to boycott these un-American, American-hating, bastards!
BOYCOTT THE NFL!!!!
I bet that they would all stand at attention for the Communist International.
The commissioner “pleading” instead of leading/commanding. No wonder no one has any respect for him and the players are running wild.
They were playing in New Jersey! The Jets. That should explain it!
The Patriots played the Jets yesterday in New Jersey. I believe the Jets have had nobody kneeling during the national anthem all season. The owner of the team is Robert Wood Johnson — who is currently serving as the U.S. ambassador to Great Britain.
I think the three key points to watch are: (1) rates for the Super Bowl commercials, (2) contract offers to the draft picks in 2018, and (3) returns/profit seen from the merchandising of NFL products (usually Xmas would be a big profit period).
If all three go negative, then I would expect contract offers for spring/summer to decrease and players going negative about the stagnant pay scale. It’s their own fault, and some folks will have to figure out a 25-percent pay cut off this deal.
Other than "We Hate White America" you are exactly correct.
To Hell with the NFL!
The NFL is tanking!
Patriotic football fans want NOTHING to do with racial 7 ethnic nationalism.
Contrary to what is implied, the USA is NOT a racist nation.
Oh we do have a minority of racists sprinkled around but USA is NOT a racist society. And what happened in history is not the fault or the responsibility of people alive today.
I am ashamed of these effing rebellious “pseudo field hands” who make 2.2 million dollars per year on average. They are creating cannon fodder to be ground up in the race war shake down to come.
I want the NFL to tank, quickly. They do not deserve to be icons of American culture.
I think autocorrect may have made a blunder today on a local Knoxville station. The story was about Kaepernick. The banner at the bottom said, “Pumpernickel Files Grievance”.
Agree, those of us who worked for a living, often with dictatorial bosses have NO SYMPATHY for these millionaire NFL gangs. Millions of us would have loved to make millions and NONE of us would have taken a knee for a false premise like this black BS, risking our livelihoods. WE are the ones they are dissing and I resent it. I helped build our country, the NFL has built nothing but spoiled millionaires and stadiums with OUR hard-earned money. Wait till they come begging for funds for a new stadium...I didnt get to see the last one I helped pay for.
If these dark featured being think the USA is so terrible there planes leaving every day to various African destinations. Why be miserable here in the US making outrageous salaries while you can live in squalor in Africa

I saw stadiums full of fans. Americans will have their bread and circuses.
I got a lot of good work done around the yard yesterday afternoon. And then we had a nice evening out at a restaurant.
Agree. Your post is dead-on. So here’s a toast to you from Kyiv with my Pepsi on ice — if I can ever get the twist-top off!
