Emma Thompson is joining a chorus of famous actresses condemning Harvey Weinstein in the wake of the many allegations of sexual assault and harassment leveled against him.
Thompson, who starred in a handful of films produced by Weinsteins company, including 2008′s Brideshead Revisited, said she had no previous knowledge of his actions, but is not entirely surprised.
I didnt know about these things, but they dont surprise me at all and theyre endemic to the system anyway, Thompson told BBC Newsnight. What I find sort of extraordinary is that this man is at the top of a very particular iceberg.
I dont think you can describe him as a sex addict, she continued. Hes a predator. But what hes, as it were, [at] the top of the ladder of is a system of harassment and belittling and bullying, and interference.
Later in the interview, when journalist Emily Maitlis pressed Thompson on whether she believed there were others within the film industry that have committed similar acts, the Beauty and the Beast actress dropped this piece of knowledge.
Of course. Many. Maybe not to that degree, she responded. Do they have to all be as bad as him to make it count? Does it only count if you really have done it to loads and loads and loads of women? Or does it count if you do it to one woman, once?
Thompson added, I think the latter.

Gee, ya think, Emma?
Absolutely. I want it all to blow wide open.
Name them then.
Sounds like there’s plenty more Roman Polanskis as well...
I want her and these other recently concerned women who knew about the femal abuse and didn’t say a word to protect their incomes to rat out the pedos that Elijah Wood, Corey Feldman, and James Van Der Beek have mentioned.
Give her credit. She seems to at least have a good helping of common sense.
Yes. The whole enchilada.
Get your popcorn ready.

a couch in the office of a casting director, supposedly used with actors or actresses willing to trade sexual favors for roles.
They have had a word for it since WW2. Weinstein is a predator, but he didn’t invent this technique, and he is certainly only one of many.
No shit Sherlock.
No! Say it ain’t so Emma. This is becoming amusing. These Hollywood people are all part of a culture where hedonistic debauchery is the modus operandi. They either participated, acquiesced and molded their values and politics to conform. Now they are expressing “shock” and outrage. (BTW shock seems to be the preferred referenced sentiment rather than outrage these days in Hollywood). Now that the lead lowlife who had climbed to the top of the dung heap has gotten some bad publicity, they are all hypocritically thumping their chests and whining loudly to anyone who will listen. Gimme a break.
No kidding .
At least it sounds like Weinstein confined his abuse to (young) adult women, the real dirty little secret that “no one knows about” is the ones who go after kids. And unlike that pizza crap, this is actually true and can be proved, if the victims are willing.
A crude attempt to deflect Weinsteins crimes into a total restructuring of Western Civilization.
A simple summation.
Weinstein did these things. All men are like this.
Many in the entertainment industry do this on a smaller scale.
Therefore, the only solution is the revolution!
There are a couple of names I recognize—a couple of well-known producers and one director—that might also be involved.
