Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday voiced concerns about President Trump's comments on NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, saying Trump should not have the power to dictate who can kneel during the anthem.
"Theres a part of this story thats starting to make me nervous, and its this: I am very uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody. Thats not where this should be coming from," Limbaugh said on his show. Limbaugh said he believed Trump's motives were "pure," but he argued that the president's actions were unhelpful in the broader debate on players kneeling.
"Trump is continually tweeting I know what hes doing, and I understand why hes doing it, and his motives are pure; dont misunderstand. But I dont think that it is useful or helpful for any employee anywhere to be forced to do something because the government says they must," he continued.
"We dont want the president being able to demand anybody that hes unhappy with behave in a way he requires," Limbaugh added.

This is not what Rush was saying. He was saying it is too bad Trump understands the American public better than the owners understand them. This was a throwaway line and not the point.
Rush is worried about his football addiction.
Rush is apparently more “muh football”, not surprising, than he is about winning a culture war.
He most certainly was. Still uses his term “Trumpster” as in Dumpster to remind us. Read other comments on this thread to me.
Trump is not making laws here.
Trump is speaking as an individual who happens to be president.
BIG difference.

If memory serves, his remarks were in response to a caller who seemed to be suggesting that Trump could dictate to the NFL. Nothing scandalous at all. Any good conservative would say the same thing.
Trump would be "dictating" if he led an effort to punish the NFL via the tax code or something. All he did was use the bully pulpit to express his own opinions, which all presidents do on various issues.

It worried me a bit that Rush would say this, since I don’t remember President Trump issuing a demand.
Yes, his voice is powerful, but he simply stated how he would handle it — fire those showing disrespect — and the nonsense would stop.
Rush did go on to say the president was giving voice to what the American people wanted to say, but couldn’t.
Great post stanne!
I truly believe this whole “NFL disrespecting our flag” is the line in the sand in terms of respect to our founding and constitution.
True Americans stand with their country, the rest are enemies of the state.
DJT didn’t “dictate” . Good grief, Rush; pull it together.
Nice ride lefties... it'd be a shame if something happened to it.
We are no longer interested in reconciliation. We have moved on to war.
LOL! I just started to sing - "He came in like a wrecking ball" This is perfect.
Rush, it is in US Federal Law to stand, you idiot.
Trump is not passing a bill involving this issue. He basically thinks the NFL should follow their own rules which states players will stand during the anthem.
The entire establishment of supposed virtuous, virile, conservative men, had to be told they were shirking their duty in allowing the Anthem/the flag tho be trampled on and they let it go on, pretending it was no big deal
They had to be told not to do it. And by then it was too late
There’s a little bit of that going on here. I don’t know if it has anything to do with what Rush was saying. It’s just disturbing that the president had to step in but he did
Rush did not imply that Trump shouldn’t have done this.
I love our President.
I believe that Rush just wanted to make sure that any NFL rules come from the owners and the league and not Washington DC.
I agree with him.
We always have the left taking advantage of our side keeping ourselves in check.
I think he was an announcer at one time.
Initially, he was all on board with Trump's comments because they were spot on, but now he may be having second thoughts because the NFL is really falling apart more and faster than anyone anticipated and it may be permanent.
Advertisers are not happy and Rush does not want to go down in history as the man who killed the NFL.
Did the Lib Hill EVER headline an article when Rush Limbaugh said he was nervous about some remark by Barack Hussein Obama M.M.M.???
It remains to be seen what the revised rules will say. If they make it specific to kneeling, and they don’t address other disrespectful actions, then that will truly be the end of the NFL.
They need to use words like “must” instead of “should”.
The sorts of things you mention are already banned during game play, like the dog pee stunt that the moronic Odell Beckham pulled. I believe the fines and suspensions need to be strengthened. Beckham was fined $12K, for him that was pocket change. He should also have been ejected.
Start dealing out serious cash penalties and multi-game suspensions, and these thugs will clean up their act pronto.
It needs to be made clear that the same rules apply to pregame activities as well as during the game, and that is not the case now.
