Limbaugh: Trump's comments on NFL 'starting to make me nervous'
The Hill ^ | October 11, 2017

Posted on 10/12/2017 2:36:29 AM PDT by SMGFan

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday voiced concerns about President Trump's comments on NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, saying Trump should not have the power to dictate who can kneel during the anthem.

"There’s a part of this story that’s starting to make me nervous, and it’s this: I am very uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody. That’s not where this should be coming from," Limbaugh said on his show. Limbaugh said he believed Trump's motives were "pure," but he argued that the president's actions were unhelpful in the broader debate on players kneeling.

"Trump is continually tweeting — I know what he’s doing, and I understand why he’s doing it, and his motives are pure; don’t misunderstand. But I don’t think that it is useful or helpful for any employee anywhere to be forced to do something because the government says they must," he continued.

"We don’t want the president being able to demand anybody that he’s unhappy with behave in a way he requires," Limbaugh added.

how often did The Hill cite Rush’s comments on Obama during his 8 years in office? —— censoring myself. But I would like MSM to meet Nagan’s Lucille :)

Rush is wrong on this issue.

President Trump is about the only voice that push back against the left and their attempt to change this nation.

President Trump is using the Bully Pulpit as a way to show middle America that they are not alone, and that all they have to do is work together to win against the politically correct movement.

I admire Rush almost more than anyone in the communication business, but his comments about President Trump’s influence over the NFL was a stretch to say the least and I fear it fueled the fire of Trump’s enemies.

the Hill is making much more of the comment than Rush did... and they omit everything else.

Ah so Rush is bothered by talking.

I remember when Clinton and Obama were singling him out, and naming other individuals too...Rush didn't think the President's great power was best used that way.

Rush was applauding Trump for doing it - day after day, week after week.

It worked. The NFL is caving.

NOW he has a problem with it?

Trump was just giving voice to his voters. He didn’t “demand” the NFL do anything as POTUS. He said, “They should have made Kaepernick stand” because it’s the right thing to do and they’ll lose fans and money if they don’t

Certainly within his rights to speak out on an issue and give voice to us.

Now that Trump has beaten the NFL, he needs to turn full attention to Hollywood. How many more producers have raped young women and men out there? Needs to stop and FBI needs to investigate.

It is a bit unnerving to see Limbaugh, of all people, conflating Power and influence.

Exactly.

Rush’s enemies and Trump’s enemies will try to use this as a wedge and will create headlines out of this. Rush should have been more careful. Know he’s on 3 hours, but any slight misstep like this - and against what he’s been saying for weeks - will be taken out of context.

Rush likely got a call from a friend that owns an NFL team (free sky box tickets?) who complained about Trump ‘threatening’ them.

Trump’s enemies are burning as brightly as they can. More fuel to them makes no addition to the heat and glare of the flame. Deferring to his enemies would bring more opprobrium on him from those enemies because they would perceive him to be thus weak and nothing is more Liberally noble than to kick a conservative when he is perceived to be down.

The Producer’s Couch has a long and noble tradition in Hollywood. I doubt any female star has been untouched.

Rush was hardcore anti-Trump even after the convention. Many here got tired of his insults towards Trump and his supporters. So much so that we turned him off and no longer commented on the Rush FR thread. I guess Rush doesn’t think Trump has 1st Amendment rights. Rush returns to form

Rush claims be is right 98 percent of the time. Tomorrow he should say this was a rare srcew up. He needs another vacation...he’s off the deep end on this.

So Rush doesn’t think Trump has 1st Amendment rights and should just shut up.

> “ I am very uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody.”

If this story from ‘The Hill’ is accurate, then Rush completely misses the point and should perhaps consider retirement.

The President is NOT dictating, he is DEFENDING the symbols of American freedom.

Far more Americans from chaotic times of injustice have defended the symbols of American freedom than the spoiled rich crybabies of today. One needs only to read about the life of Sergeant William Carney to know true courage in the face of massive injustice.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3588995/posts

It is the William Carney’s of today that need to speak up, not these shameful spoiled ingrates that are paraded before the American public as if they are deserving praise. They deserve SCORN! And the President is expressing this sentiment on behalf of Americans everywhere, leaving a stamp on history that such ingratitude is misplaced and is not mainstream.

I remember that.

Rush realized he was off track with his audience and corrected course.

Rush is letting his fandom cloud his thinking. He, too, likes to consider himself as in the sky box beyond the concerns of the six pack Joes upset by the kneeling. Sees it more as a PR problem.

Here’s the truth. We made Rush and we made Trump.

To the extent they give us voice they are relevant.

When they miss the boat, we cast them aside.

Trump didn’t force the NFL to do anything. He saw the bandwagon already in place and jumped on it.

When Trump misses it (Moore senate race) he’s ignored. Ditto Rush.

Yup, Rush is way off on this. He is only human though and can’t be right about everything.

Not everyone “gets” it, especially the majority of media. It is a vision many Americans have about the country - the Constitution. The relationship between POTUS and the American people.
