My wife just called to report an explosion at the Eastman Chemical Plant, located in Kingsport, Tennessee. She said that the blast shook the building she works in, roughly two miles away. Media just arriving on scene, so no details as of yet.

There is video of the initial blast...almost like a series of detonations along ground level.

Where is Kingsport in terms of proximity to larger cities?

Reminded me of the sequences of explosions you see when a bridge is being demolished...

Kingsport has a population of 50,000...part of the Tri-Cities metro of 300,000 people. That's pretty large... :-)
Charlotte is the closest 'large' city...about 200 miles away.

It’s in the eastern tri cities area.. Bristol is part of that area, but there is a lot of mountains in and around the area. Beautiful country. I’m in Knoxville.. far from it. Lived in Asheville nc..

Clearly this is Donald Trump’s fault.
Also, we should ban guns to prevent any more chemical plant explosions.

I heard that on the local news...Eastman doesn’t like ‘unauthorized personnel’ on their property when ‘incidents’ like this crop up. Steam plumes and such are pretty much 24/7 around Eastman, but as the beginning of the raw footage shows; that is NOT a ‘steam plume. You can see flame shooting up briefly to the right at the base of two smokestacks. Hope no one was in there...

I realize that, but census data based on population considers Charlotte as the nearest ‘large city’...go figure.

Schools are sheltering in place.
Sound of an explosion at plant, but few details. Plant has frequent expansion construction.

Businesses in the area being advised to shut down air conditioning so ‘nothing’ gets sucked in from the outside.

And schools now "sheltering in place", alarm still ringing over the community, but still... no problem.
Sure glad I do not live in the area. Bad corporate citizen to be silent when obviously problem on site and risk to neighborhood.
