Drudge rips Trump tax plan: Difference between Dems and GOP is an 'illusion'

By Josh Delk - 09/27/17 12:16 PM EDT

The Drudge Report's Matt Drudge sent out a rare tweet Wednesday morning criticizing the GOP for making concessions to Democrats on taxes and health care, saying there is no longer an "illusion" of difference between the two major parties.

"First keep Obamacare, now raise taxes on top earners? At least illusion there is difference between parties is finished once and for all!" Drudge said, taking aim at proposals in the new GOP tax plan.

The website also led with a scathing headline: "More Betrayal Republican Plan to Raise Taxes."

Republicans Wednesday unveiled their framework for a major tax overhaul, which includes big cuts to corporate taxes and lowering individual tax rates, and completely nixing the estate tax.

But the plan also says that "an additional top rate may apply to the highest-income taxpayers to ensure that the reformed tax code is at least as progressive" as the current one.

It also would raise the lowest individual tax bracket from 10 to 12 percent, while nearly doubling the standard tax deduction.

Drudge's tweet also bashes Republicans for another recent failure at repealing ObamaCare, a major GOP campaign platform, with party leaders in Congress deciding not to vote on the latest bill proposed by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.).

Difference between Dems and GOP is an ‘illusion’

At least he gets that part.

I left the R party in 2006. The veil was lifted on the #uniparty. Trump damages his brand when he tries to work with them.

Mark Levin made an accurate distinction between tax reform and tax cuts. Fundamentally not the same thing.

We need reform. Trump is suggesting "cuts" (rate changes.)

We now officially have three political parties. The Conservatives, the Regressives and the Cowardly Lying Party.

It’s time for the Conservative party to break away from the GOP.

>>>when have the dems proposed doubling the standard exemption

Sure they doubled the standard deduction, but they took away the personal exemption. Those that currently itemize and large families get hosed wrt to taxable income.

...criticizing the GOP for making concessions to Democrats on taxes and health care...

And despite these concessions to Democrats, healthcare reform is dead, and Democrats are already criticizing the GOP tax plan. Seriously, just how brain dead is the GOPe that they continually bow and genuflect to their Democrat masters and then -- once again -- get nothing for it except a shiv in the back.

The Stupid Party just never learns and is forever seeking to be loved by Democrats and the MSM. They are just incapable of learning.

Well, in many ways, yes. Democrats want a tax increase on the wealthy (to stop wealth creation now that they’ve got theirs), and Trump seems likely to give it to them.

Drudge seems to have had it out for Trump since the day he said he didn’t want transgender freaks in the military.

doubling the standard exemption

By raising the rates. They'll go for that deal.

for R’s to want to “keep the tax code at least as progressive as the current one”

is NOT what we voted for them for!

Trying to form a new party might take longer and there are risks. In principles I like the idea of a pure MAGA party.

What’s happening right now will turn the GOP conservative. MAGA is on the march. Corker gone. More wins despite $30 million in GOPe money to take him down. NFL is knee deep in trouble. Gorka and Bannon are on the loose. Your Voice America and other new media are on the rise.

And Trump is at the helm...

Assuming this plan passes, which it won’t, top earners would get about 70% of all the 5 trillion in tax cuts it gives over the next ten years.

All members of the (D) party and most members of the (R) party are simply Swampocrats.

if we wanted the R’s to “keep the tax code at least as progressive as the current one”
we would have voted for Bernie the Red or HilLIARy and their communistic gangsters

what’s the difference between an Anti-American Communistic “Progressive” gangster and a RINO?
The RINO is still hiding in the closet (but he votes the same damned communistic way)

We don’t need Drudge anymore. And we don’t need his sidekick Ann Coulter either. They have fallen away from the MAGA movement. Let them go. We don’t need them.

We have Bannon/Brietbart and a surging Your Voice America with Bill Mitchell. ... and we have FR.

Yes, $7 trillion going back into the economy rather than into the federal government’s coffers is just sinful. /s

Folks, either you believe in tax cuts to spur the economy or you don’t.

Which is it?

“But the plan also says that “an additional top rate may apply to the highest-income taxpayers to ensure that the reformed tax code is at least as progressive” as the current one.”

This is what Trump has asked for. He has said it more than a few times he wants a tax increase for the rich. Trump’s and the GOPe’s difference with the Dems is in the details not the principals.

I didn’t say anything of the sort. Just pointing out that Drudge is completely wrong in his contention that the wealthy will not benefit. They benefit primarily.
