Hurricane Irma Live Thread III
NHC/NOAA ^ | NHC/NOAA | NHC/NOAA

The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.

Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

tidal surge

Although I've barely heard it mentioned, and specifically seawater in Miami, it only seems logical that they will be getting storm surge on the East coast of Florida first, until the storm moves further up the peninsula.

So theoretically, they could have a flooding event on the Atlantic Coast, and both high winds and flooding on the Gulf Coast.

Not enough tortured, self-conscious verbosity.

2016 winner:

“Even from the hall, the overpowering stench told me the dingy caramel glow in his office would be from a ten-thousand-cigarette layer of nicotine baked on a naked bulb hanging from a frayed wire in the center of a likely cracked and water-stained ceiling, but I was broke, he was cheap, and I had to find her.”

broadcastress

Funny. More amusing than "newsreader." Makes me think that the males should be called "broadcastrati" and the females "broadcastratrix."

This is going to become a rain event more than a wind event.

Two of the tall building cranes in Miami have toppled? Tumbled? Fallen? Crashed? Gone from tall to very short.

Something is going on out of the ordinary, but by how much? The dock in the Bahamas is only 5 feet from what I can tell. The guy jumping into the tidal flats is taller than dock. Who would build a dock that can’t handle your run of the mill high tide foul weather storm surge.

Ahhh... Irma... notoriously capricious... that weekend on Marco Island...

Sounds like a romance novel. :-)
