The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

Idiots even seem to be mugging for the camera. Real smart.
A lot of Canadian “Snow Birds” have properties in Napkes, Fort Myers, Sarasota, and I know there are many from the northeast and Midwest USA in the same situation. This storm is being watched intently in many communities outside of Florida.
Or guns and ammo. Sporting goods stores do sell them, too.
“Sporting goods” in the hood = Nikes.
But you might be right. Gun stores are big targets when looting starts.
He did not say or intend what you imagine.
Vetiver essential oil is very calming, I highly recommend it.
It's hysteria when irresponsible MSM news channels are talking nothing but catastrophe and acting as if the entire state of Florida is going to be destroyed, frightening people who are not even in an evacuation zone and therefore not under severe threat to hit the road, causing massive traffic jams, using up all the gasoline and making it very difficult for evacuees from the actual area of apparent landfall to evacuate when the path of the storm changes, as notoriously capricious hurricanes are wont to do.
Yeah, I agree, and I wouldn’t put anything past criminals who loot in these conditions.
Americans have a spirit of helping others and taking care of business. Dwindled somewhat due to gov/education, but disasters like these often bring out the best in good people.
I’m also in Tx. Have always had a garage. Who knew it was a northern thing! LOL
Hopefully the storm will keep going north and slam into land to weaken it.
Power still working wherever he’s at.
“Im hearing that all the internet companies are going to free wi-fi for the duration of the storm, and adding hot spots with COWs.”
About an hour ago, FNC had a crawl at the bottom of the screen listing the companies (looked like most of ‘em) giving free wi-fi.
Longest sentence in a post Today!
Every storm runs out of rain.
It was a dark and stormy night...
That would make a good entry in the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest for purple prose!

Take a look at crankyweatherman’s twitter feed.
There has been a great deal of focus on the eye wall, and the wind speed, but not enough of the weather impacts that will be generated by Irma at quite a distance from the path of the storm, and not necessarily in the direction that Irma moves.
I don’t think this storm has been over-hyped. Time will tell
That still doesn't mean water got sucked out of Tampa Bay. Bayshore Blvd is along the east side of the AF base. If you look at an overhead satellite map, it is extremely shallow along that seawall. There could be something going on with the tides, but I doubt is more than a foot. If time stamp is accurate, the picture was taken about halfway or so between high and low tides. As I mentioned before I don't think that seawall will hold the predicted tidal surge even at low tide.
Do you have Zello?
Sunny Isles Beach, just north of Miami Beach, is getting nailed.
