The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

Thanks - that’s great
Very nice I agree
Having lived through Andrew and Iniki (Kauai 91) I can completely agree
That these things are very scary and challenging
Unless you’ve been through these you should just do your part to pray for safety for those in harms way
All comments should be positive in this time of crisis Level headed. Helpful. Informative.
May God bless and keep all in harms way safe through this very diffcult and dangerous time
Freeregrads.
Yes. Vermont Country Store is horribly expensive. If I can find the same thing another place it’s always cheaper. Some of their “old-timey” stuff is pretty much unique to them so I do buy a little. I did recall seeing a transistor radio in a recent catalog.
That post is a fine example of why FR is so great. Well said.
Prayers for God’s protection for all of our FRiends in the path of this storm.
“Please baby, I am not from Havana.”
As a former Floridian, now in Tennessee, all I can do is try to make sure my family in Florida is in as safe a place as possible. I offered them a place to stay, but circumstances would not allow it. At least they forced my sister out of her trailer in Orange County. The closest part of my family are all in Central Florida, away from the coast, and have a generator. I know there are others who could not or would not leave. I’ve been there.
The only other thing I think they could have done to get some of the ones that could have gotten out to leave was to shut off the internet and cell towers. I have a fear that some are staying to get 15 minutes of fame broadcasting the storm’s arrival.
There is instantaneous closed caption translation now, and its gotta be WAY more accurate than these crazy people drawing circles in the air.
Many profoundly Deaf do not have a good command of the English Language as ASL is their primary language.
*crazy people drawing circles in the air*?
Really?
You are ignorant beyond any idea you have.
Been there... on a better weather day!
Great post, plus evacuating is a pain in the butt, plus it costs a lot of money. Like you said, roads are jammed, gas is low. Plus it costs a lot. Hotels are hard to come by, plus the hotel and eating out every meal costs a lot. Getting out is hard. Getting back is also hard. Plus it costs a lot.
Is Joe Bastardi usually right, or bat s—t crazy??
I have bought stuff from them, a bit, over the years. But whew, so expensive.
He’s usually right. The place I think is going to get killed is Atlanta. All those old oaks up in Buckhead are going to get ripped down.
Indeed. And a stark contrast to the Governor's script reading.
HaHaHa—Sheriff Grady Judd is naming names AND showing photos of attempted looters in Polk Co. before the storm even arrive. They broke into a mobile home that wasn’t boarded up. Found car keys—and tried to steal the car...but the battery was dead. Neighbors heard the commotion and called Sheriff Grady’s Posse. The rest is history, and we know what the perps look like.
Good Post. Not everyone can leave.
he is very accurate but like anyone in that field, a forecast is a prediction of a future event.
Rick Scott is giving a press conference right now.
I’ll turn the sound off and report back what he says.
Yes, you are correct, he is angry about his crocheting being ruined.
It’s 2017 and the sign language people are ridiculous, but that’s just my opinion, so please don;t take it as an insult.
