It doesn’t matter if he reads it in a monotone. The facial expressions are grammatical markers not a reflection of how the person is speaking.

Questions always use eyebrows down for *w* questions and yes/no questions, eyebrows up, just for starters.

Eyebrows are also raised to denote the topic of the sentence.

ASL is a very expressive language as that is the only way to communicate feeling, intensity, distance, time passage, etc.

Half the message would be lost without the facial expressions. Sometimes the meaning of something changes completely with a simple change of facial expression.

There are bigger fish to fry with this storm than criticizing the use of a language you don’t understand to begin with.
