Teen girl swims across lake to escape 'nightmare' kidnapping
A Minnesota teen who was kidnapped for almost a month swam across a lake Tuesday to escape her abductors, officials said.
The teenager, from Alexandria, Minn., made it safely across the lake before running onto a property where she received help, CBS Minnesota reported.
Authorities said the young girl was kidnapped on Aug. 8 by Thomas Barker, 32, who urged the teen to get into his car and drove her to a residence in Carlos. Barker, his roommate and another friend physically and sexually assaulted the teenager, officials said.

Living in MN lake country and at this time of year she could do it, probably having been brought up with lots of swimming lessons since she was 4 or 5 years old. By the time I was 16 I’d received my Red Cross Swimmer rating and could have done it if under the duress she was.
I see there pictures, and the first two words I think of are;
“Foul odors”. She was captive for a month? Incredible.
The torture she and her family must have gone through.
That tidbit alone should convince you that the evil MSM do not care what happens to victims of crimes. They have been advocating for lighter sentences, no death penalties, and get out of jail free cards for decades.
They are evil to the core without remorse.
Definitely want that but right now I’m more concerned about what help this girl is going to need after such a nightmare. How do you move on from that?
Lots of lakes are less than a half mile across at some points. It is early September. The water has not had a chance to cool much from the high temperatures of late summer.
She was likely very tired, but swimmers with decent technique can swim for miles.
