Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

If you have any leaning trees or old trees with dead limbs, weak limbs or large limbs overhanging the roof, you might consider removing them. Take a good long look at any tree that could fall on your house, particularly considering the likely path of the storm and the wind direction that the storm path would lead to in your location. Loose shingles, clogged gutters? Now’s the time. Put up lawn chairs and other objects that could be blown into the house or blown away. Not as severe as a hurricane but still potential projectiles even in a tropical storm. Due to downed trees, power outages will be likely and widespread, preparations for several days to a week without electricity would be in order.
That path would move the everglades north. Massive flooding. Eye travelling over Orlando. Unbelievable carnage on that route.

Passing your plea for help on to Laz. He's a local, and might be able to help.

I used to drive from Sarasota to NY and I had several people tell me on different occasions to not bother with I-95 or I-75 but rather to take 301 north to Jacksonville.
They said it was actually faster than I-95 just on an average daily basis even though it goes through some small towns with speed zones.
I just looked at Google traffic and 301 shows green all the way.
Thanks...willing to pay any price at this point...
I was/is an avid radar watcher since living in tornado alley for a good bit.

An infrared image shows temperature differences.
I did hear the governor explaining the steps being taken to be sure there is enough fuel. Sounded very concerned but on top of it. Lots of action to ensure there’s gas, but that waits will be inevitable.
301 is good. Slow, narrow, twisty, but better than being stuck on 95. However, services are few and far between.
Neither do ATM's.
